Hi
Me is new to GeekZOne but the atmosphere here seem pretty good so I guess I mite be able to get some good responses here.
Here it goes

I am currently on a 12month contract with Slingshot(SS) which finishes at the end of this month. I am also moving house on Thursday (12th). Knowing that there is gonna be a $50 fee on moving to a new address, I am actually not so keen on continuing the contract with SS.

The SS customer service told me I cannot join another ISP until my contract with SS finishes (or else $100 early disconnection applies). But the thing is, if I move to the new address and decide not to pay the $50 fee. I will be out of internet from 12th till end of April.

So what I am asking here is, since I am moving to a new address, Would it be alright if I just make my final payment with SS and begin a new contract with another ISP on the new phoneline (same number)of my new house ?

Of course. The whole point of the contract is so that you pay them twelve full months of the base monthly fee. When you move to a new address, just ring up the ISP of your choice and give them your new telephone number/account number and they should be able to sort out your internet.

Xnet and Slingshot are offering FREE connections at the moment, without a term contract. Ihug are also offering free connection & 2 months free without a term contract if you sign up their Ihug Home Phone as well.

Oh ! that's good news

I was actually quite frustrated that SS customer rep led me to believe I was either gonna pay the $50 fee, or be out of internet for 2 weeks. Do I need to inform Slingshot about me getting another ISP ? I just want to avoid being charged $100 for early disconnection. But anyway , I think I am going to sign up for Xnet river. They seem to have the best broadband plan for me.

You should always advise that you are moving providers

Just cause a contract ends does not mean the service is automatically stopped and you may be required to give up to 30days notice by there T&Cs

I think the $100 early disconnection fee applies if you opted for the free crappy dynalink modem, so they can recover the cost of it.
