Hi.

One of our clients is moving to Mauranui avenue Newmarket, very soon. (next week) We have only been told recently and investigations lead to show that VDSL isn't available (line noise is 2-3dB outside of Range), ADSL IS available and UFB is available but still could be months away from being installed (request already made).

We are looking for a temporary solution to assist this customer.

They really need something with at least 5 Mbit Upload, 15 Down and 150GB a month, though some of those things are negotiable (upload speed isn't really).

Only need potentially short term.

Everything like Business Fibre, SHDSL and HSNS are all BIG lead times, LONG contracts and big install costs.

Anyone aware of any other options we haven't considered? Vibe Communications stopped offering their Wireless and Epsom/Newmarket is out of range anyway.

We also really need at least 1 Static IP and a Rout able Subnet with at least 1 additional address, though a /29 is ideal.

Thanks for any ideas.

Is there any way to get Chorus to try and install VDSL if the customer signs a waiver to say they won't hold them responsible if the connection isn't stable?

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I think if the line doesn't meet the requirements, they will not complete a VDSL installation, regardless of how much you want it.

Order it from spark. They seem to manage to get chorus to try to install it on lines that it will never work on in many cases.

No. Don't order it from Spark for that reason. Order if from your preferred ISP. Spark has no special pull with Chorus in this area.

compass llu shdsl they may be able to get it in pritty quickly been a medium sized isp you would have to pay the install fee of coarse,

We waited MONTHS to get a business fiber line into a building in central Auckland as a Spark Digital customer. Not their fault, just the way it goes with Chorus. Thankfully we have a good Citrix setup in Dunedin so ADSL was OK to get us through.
