Hi, I have a D-Link DSL-302G modem and have been having a problem with it (and 2 other modems) where at random time intervals the ADSL light and status light will drop out at the same time. It will then reconnect itself anywhere from 10-30 seconds later. This is a huge problem for me as I enjoy playing online games but I can't when I'm getting disconnected all of the time. I've tried using different phone jacks, different modems, changing the ADSL filter on the phone and cooling off the modem. But I still get disconnected all the time. I'm not very good with modem/internet related problems so I would appreciate some very simple instructions on how to fix this problem.

Two things I'd try:

1. Are there any non-filtered phones plugged into any phone sockets in your home?  If so, this will cause the drop outs.
2. Try upgrading the firmware on your router, or look at a replacement (try TradeMe).

1. Nope, no other phones.

2. Have been through 3 routers, 1 of which was brand new and still dropped out.

What ISP are you connecting with? Ask them to get Telecom to do a line test for you.

Can you post your line stats (ie attenuation, S/N, sync rate) and connection mode, do you know how far roughly you are from your exchange, from that a guess of the line length etc to see if it ties up with the attenuation.

Attenuation: Downstream 9.0dB Upstream 24.0dB
Connection Rate: Downstream 7616 Kbps Upstream 160 Kbps
Connection Type: PPPoA VC-Mux

No I don't know how far away I am from my exchange.

Based on your attenuation you must be around 0.7km from the DSLAM, what is the signal to noise ratio (or noise ratio). There should be no issues with this connection unless, there is a DSLAM port issue, modem problem (but youve tried others) bad intermittent joint on the line, or there is a phone/fax/skybox or alarm across the line that is not behind a filter that you have not discovered.

If you can be certain there is no issue at your end as far as other POTs devices across the line without filters then I suggest you contact your ISP to kick Chorus to check your line.
