Hello

I was wondering if installing a master filter to my property would benefit me in anyway? There is 2 jack points in the house that I can run my 2D modem off.

One is in the kitchen and looks like a standard phone line and the other is in the living room and looks like a an ethernet port.

Do you have a home line delivered over POTS or via the internet / modem?

Unsure. We do not use a home phone and I just have naked broadband.

Would I just need a phone to plug into the kitchen jack point? We are rural customers.

ultimately you want to change the house wiring to just have it go straight to where you have the modem and mot to any other jacks around the place. if that were the case then a master filter might not achieve much

If on Naked then just setup a master telephone jack point and no master filter required

a master filter would likely clean up the line a little bit, it's not exactly the most healthiest, but nothing particularly wrong with it too - functioning as expected, dslam has pulled profile back a little to make it more stable.

Very well could be external, but highly likely to be internal first.

I'd say at least 95% of master filters I've installed have made a positive difference. If there are no major issues and it's naked DSL, then difference may not be significant, but if you are on a rural line, then any extra little bit of performance you can squeeze out of the line is always a good thing.

Technically for naked DSL you don't need the master filter, but basically the work is the same whether you fit the master filter at the end or not, so may as well fit it. There was some Chorus testing done a few years ago that came to the conclusion that even on a clean naked DSL line a master filter had some influence; possibly it also helps reduce additional noise on the line or something like that.

In many cases even on a "naked" line there is still jumpering in place to voice services (giving a disconnected tone) so a mater filter is ALWAYS a good thing
