So my Router blew up today, - i couldn't help but notice my fibre box had an antenna on it. - So i had a quick look at the back of it and it had wifi credentials.

Had I a quick read up and apparently it's Optical network terminal type 300. - Which supports router/wifi

So i tried to hook it up, and it wouldn't work.

My question is, - Have Chorus disabled the functionality of it being used as a router or even just as wifi?

its up to the ISP to ask chorus to enable it but i dont believe any ISP's support it they all use their own devices

Nope. Chorus aren't an ISP, they are the LFC.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

You need an ONT and router before the WiFi access point in the network, so no the ONT won’t work as an access point. The ONT is owned by Chorus, it’s not for consumers to configure.

the functionality is there, chorus has offered it to the ISP's but they all choose to go with their own router for their products.

you cant get it through chorus as they wholesale it to ISP's

Almost all RSPs provision as bridge mode as such the wifi is disabled

As per Chorus: Chorus 3rd Generation ONT (Type 300) can turn into a residential gateway (RGW) with Wi-Fi capabilities. Please check with your service provider to confirm if your ONT is setup in RGW mode to provide Wi-Fi.

So basically in laymans terms the Wifi and Router are disabled until the ISP Specifies otherwise? - AKA i need to go buy a new router.

Very succinctly: no, you can't use it as a router. Yes, you will need to get a new router.

An interesting idea in theory if placed in an optimal position for the location / customer. Reality - ONT goes low down near the floor / in a cupboard / wall behind the TV (so the rest of the house is hosed) / networking closet constructed of metal. Yeah, nah.

I know Compass Support it. Might have to give them a call though.
