I'd welcome some creative solutions from the Geekzone community to the following problem I'm facing:
Situation:
- I live in Auckland and I'm with Orcon on Orcon@Home Gold+
- Next week I'm moving out of my current house and 5 weeks later we're moving into a new house a few hundred meters away.
What I'd like:
- My services to be suspended, my phone number to be held for me - ideally redirected to another number temporarily - and then everything reactivated at the new address 5 weeks later.
- Key requirement is to retain the phone number if possible.
What's I'm facing:
- According to www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps Both my current address and new address are on the same exchange. They have both been cabnetised, but are on different (adjacent) cabinets.
- It turns out that my current plan is not available at the new address and I'd have to go on the standard Gold plan - $10 more per month and no caller ID :-(
- It might not be possible to move my number even if I was transferring straight across - due to different cabinets.
- With the 5 week gap, my number might not actually be requestable at the new house - by Orcon or anyone else.
So, what can I do?
I'm quite happy with Orcon, but not keen to pay more money and to lose my phone number. The only solution I can think of so far is to try and move my number to something like Vodafone's Home Phone Wireless plan...and then sign up with a new broadband provider once I finally move in.
