GCSB Surveillance Vans?

Not sure if this is the right place to post, just looking for some opinion.

Today I turned on my Xbox 360 console and was automatically connected to this network...
(tried signing into Xbox Live and since that didn't work I went to look at the wireless networks)

This is what I saw:

The network to the right with 4 bars is my network, the network I would usually automatically connect to.
I have never seen this "GCSB-Surveillance-Van-6" network before or connected to any of my neighbour's networks.

My question is, how did I automatically connect to this network?

Is this really the GCSB spying on people..?

You're trolling right?

On the off chance you aren't - no, the GCSB don't drive round in vans with wireless networks labelled like that.

Just in case you are not trolling and are genuinely concerned,

my guess is, one of your neighbours has a sense of humour, and has renamed their wireless router.

My WiFi at home has three SSIDs, and I named all of them NZPolice#1, NZPolice#2 and NZPolice#3.

the gcsb in my area seems to support 5ghz how nice of them.

The GCSB vans all say "cat detector" on the side. They use Aruba remote access points for what it's worth.

I once saw a police undercover van drive past with flashing lights. High sided dark blue van with tinted windows and a ladder on top for cliche value - no one would ever guess.

Seems odd - does anyone else have access to your Xbox? Kids? Something you tried connecting to ages ago and your wifi was briefly unavailable?

Or else just a bug.

I think that government surveillance of your Xbox habits by intercepting wifi, with the collusion of Microsoft is the least likely explanation. Besides, they capture it all at the southern cross cable termination right?

I live right next door to GCSB Van 7. On the other side is "Telecom dial up"...

The AP on my mobile phone is only Van #3, so it ain't me!!
