Hi,

I cannot get my USB printer (Brother HL-2240D) to work on a Huawei HG659 as supplied by BigPipe—I'm on a BP fibre plan. Apologies in advance if posting to the wrong subforum*.

My setup is a MacBook Pro 2017 OS 10.13.2 :

System Preferences>Printers & Scanners>IP>
Address: 192.168.1.1:631/printers/Brother_HL_2240D_series
Protocol: HP Jetdirect - Socket
Use (driver): Brother HL-2240D series CUPS

The setup on the MacBook is all okay as far as I can tell. The correct drivers are installed, (since) the printer works when connected directly to the MacBook via a thunderbolt 3 port. However, when connected to the HG659 USB port I get

‘Unable to write print data: Broken pipe’

on the error log when I send a document to the printer.

Been bumping my head against this for a while without success; any software fixes gratefully received.

What application are you using to print? Can you make a blank text doc in TextEdit and print that?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Was using the print queue (in system preferences) to print test pages.

Printing a blank doc in TextEdit does not produce anything.

Yup, have tried resetting the printing system and then setting up the printer again.

Just a thought, but have you gone into the router settings interface and turned on "USB Printing"? This is often set as off by default.

3. Select IP Printer on the Printer Browser.
4. Set the printer information as follows:
− Protocol: Internet Printing Protocol-IPP
− Address: 192.168.1.254:631
− Queue: printers/myHG659bPrinter

To be honest, I'd be more surprised if it did work reliably than didnt :-)

1101... thanks, that did it.

Clearly I had the wrong 'Protocol' and 'Queue' settings -- that HG659b manual (slightly different default IP settings to the HG659) really hit the spot.

Hoping your prediction re 'I'd be more surprised if it did work reliably than didnt' turns out to be false though :).
