I don't have a clue how all this works but I've been having troubles trying to get the Ethernet port in my room to work, its a cat 6 50 gold patch cable and im plugging another cat6 into the port then into my desktop but nothings happening. I've tried every slot on the patch thingy above my chorus box with the other end attached to a LAN slot in my modem (pictures below). i have also tried other Ethernet ports in the house with the same method and still nothing, yea so if any of u smart fellas wanna help me out that would be great. Also let me know if you need more photos.

Looks like you're missing cables from the LAN ports on your Vodafone router up to the black patch panel to actually feed those wall ports?

There seems to be only 4 connected throughout the entire house.

You need to look for a common number on the cable in the box, vs what is behind the wallplate. Or tone them out to identify.

And unfortunate for you, somewhere they turn from a blue cable to a white one. So theres possibly some intermediate connections somewhere else? (or is it just shoddy painted cables)

shoddy painted unfortunately. most likely painted over the label but as i said ive tried every port twice over.

Nothing a craft knife or tonesource couldn't fix.

Of the 8 outlets on the distro board it may also be tricky to work out which of the outlets is actually jumpered

Going by the pic it appears to be l-r #1,2,3,5,7 only (normally the top row are odds, bottom even) so no point plugging into the others.

And unless you KNOW the port on the router is actually coming up?.. (take it to beside the device and make sure there is a link using that cable direct into the outlet you have it in in back of router)

As well as the physical connection being good you need a matching IP address to talk through the router. You need to be sure youre connecting at the physical layer and thats where the little LEDs come in handy - do you have any other device with LEDs to use temporarily?

Then you can move to the next step , assuming you use DHCP on the PC then its usually easy.

yea ive got those leds on the router and when i plugged a laptop directly to the modem the lights on the laptop near round the ethernet port lit up but havent lit up when trying the wall ports

Sounds like you've tested everything properly and nothing is working. Can you do a close-up photo of the black patch panel? The only thing I can think of is that the wires aren't punched down correctly.

You might also try different patch cables, on the off chance one of the ones you used is bad.

How many ethernet ports are in the house?

4 total?

So what happens if you plug into the wall outlet thats connected by that yellow plug?
