Having visted the various forums have still not found an answer.

I have a Sony TR5 bluetooth laptop. I have an iPAQ 3850 with bluetooth jacket. I have the latest version of Microsoft Active Sync.

Whilst the Ipaq and the laptop can communicate via bluetooth and make a serial connection Active Sync refuses to run.
The only way active sync will work is via the usb cradle.
Any one any thoughts? Please help.
Having established which comm port that bluetooth uses and choose the option of sync only when asked to sync the dialogue box that comes up says that the device trying to connect is not a Smartphone or PDA.
Many thanks.

Are you using the Sony Bluespace software for the Bluetooth on the laptop? If so, then you're finding a known problem with the Sony Bluespace, which will not work with ActiveSync.

Yep... Terrible software. Check this other thread for more information. Some had success replacing the software.

ActiveSync will work if you delete the Sony software and use the stuff that comes with Windows service Pack 2. Sony is simply a waste of time, they repackaged the standard widcomm drivers but made it so that it wouldn't work for half the devices in the world
