Hi geeks,

this is my first post, even though I've been lurking for about 6 months. (I'll qualify that - this is my second post, after I posted more than once on my first post due to being taken to a blank screen when clicking "Create Topic" - rather, it created confusion.)

In recent months I set up a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router to my D-Link DSL-502T modem (probably not the best modems, but it came with a 3 year warranty which was tempting after having 2 modems fail in 2 years).

I have used uTorrent in the past, and managed port forwarding without too much effort. This time, with the wireless router, the icon at the bottom of the uTorrent screen remains red.

Networking is not one of my strong suits, and I am having problems port forwarding with a discrete router in the mix. I think I have set up the router okay, but I cannot work out what to do to the modem, nor where to enter it.

Can someone please run through this with me? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Advanced/port forwarding. Rule points to WAN interface (give it a static address) of router. ?Tools?/System/Save and Reboot.

Thanks, Mr Spyware, for your reply. However there is no "Port Forwarding" tab anywhere in the menu. Any other pointers?
Thanks!

Advanced/Virtual Server maybe? I don't have a manual but maybe you should.

Yes, that looks like it. But in your previous reply, do you mean LAN rather than WAN? (There's no reference to WAN on the Virtual Server page anyway.)

Should LAN IP be the Default Gateway? Or do I need to set up a static IP address in the router?

Thanks for your help!

The WAN interface on Linksys needs a static IP (on same subnet as 502T LAN interface). The LAN interface of the 502T connects to WAN interface of Linksys. Port forward rule on 502T points to this WAN interface IP address.

To summarise. Port forward rule on 502T points to WAN interface IP address on Linksys and port forward rule on Linksys points to PC IP address (running uTorrent).  So both the PC and Linksys WAN interface need static addresses.

P.S. All above assumes that you have connected the 502T to WAN interface of the linksys, and hence your port forward rule in the Linksys, but maybe you connected the 502T to the Linksys LAN interface in which case you don't need any port forward rule in the Linksys as it is not doing any routing. Also the above port forward would have to be modified.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry I have been a bit slack (or perhaps too busy) to sort out the problem and to say thanks. So, thanks Smile

Doesn't the 502T support half bridge? If so just enable half bridging (might be called IP extension), then set the WRT to get it's WAN ip address automagically from the 502T.

After that you will only have to do the port forwarding in the WRT to your PC's ip address.
