I have been reading your guide and forum postings but I still can't get my bluetooth to work.

I have a Medion Laptop and I want to connect with my Sony Ericsson K7001 mobile phone but the bluetooth drivers don't appear to want to recognise my hardware. I have installed and uninstalled and been on the phone to technical and they can't help.

I have a Blue bluetooth icon in the system tray with a red symbol. I also have a blue icon with a white symbol also in the system tray. On my desktop I have my bluetooth places. If I right click on the icon with the red symbol it says "Bluetooth device not found." right clicking on the other one gives quite a lot of options including the one, Add a bluetooth device.

However, when I try to add a bluetooth device it brings up the wizard, I then check the "my device is set up and ready to be found," but it never finds it. If I click on the options tab of bluetooth devices and can then check the "turn on discovery box," then when I try to apply it it brings up an error report saying it cannot save these settings, soI can't go any further at this point. Please Help. I have service pack 2 installed as it was when I bought the computer.

Just a very short reply (I dont have time for longer):

First of all you have to icons in the system tray because both BT driver installed (WIDCOMM and Windows). Both cannot work at the same time.

You have to decide which one you want to use and remove the other.

Finally: I had the same problem and I found a clear instruction on Microsoft help pages how to fix it. Please try to search a bit more on the net.

I had gathered that this was the case and I have been searching the net for over a week with no luck, including everything about bluetooth on the microsoft site. I went back on again for about a half hour before writing this and I still can't find this fix you mentioned.

I shall keep trying of course. Once again many thanks.

Thank you for your reply. I did see the guide previously that the link refers to. But I did try to follow it and,again today with no luck.

The problem is the I can neither switch the bluetooth hardware on or off as it is built into my laptop. I do have any button to switch the wireless on and off and when I press the switch it brings up a small window with two check boxes one for bluetooth and one for wireless. However, the bluetooth will not check when you click on it. The wireless does. whether this is something to do with the software or hardware I don't know. But it means I can't follow the guide because of this as I can't switch it off.

Please help

Oh... We can't help much if we don't have all the details. Back to the basics then:

Did this hardware ever worked for you? Or is this laptop "Bluetooth ready" only?

Some laptops comes with the software ready to use, but no hardware - this is an optional. This is common with Toshiba models for example.

freitasm is right, check your laptop if it has BT hardware.

We have many IBM T41s in our office and we can switch the BT on the same way you mentioned together with the wireless, but some of our laptops had no BT hardware so we have to use a dongle. Some other laptops (like mine) have BT hardware so I have no problems switching on and off.

Yes, it does have or should have bluetooth hardware because this is what I paid for. I have only had this laptop (my first, I have had several desktops before this) a couple of months. I hadn't tried bluetooth before because I had nothing to try it with. And, since I just bought a new mobile phone with bluetooth I thought I would try it out. It mentions in the user manual how to switch it on via the switch I mentioned earlier.

It it a Medion with an Intel Centrino 1.73 Hz chip. I have tried their technical on the phone for about half an hour. At this time I had unistalled the Widcomm hardware and so the techy said install the software and it would probably work or get back to him. With him saying this, after half an hour of going through different routines, it is obvious they haven't a clue what their are talking about. This is why I am trying the forums, if all else fails I will give the techy an other go.

Many thanks, I have been googling every day and sometimes several times a day but I can't seem to find anything similar to my problem. I hadn't thought of looking for this model and drivers together though, so I will try this.

I think I have now tried everywhere on the net that talks about bluetooth but still now joy. I have even gave the technical at Medion another call. They suggest that I should back everything up and put in their system disk in to reinstall everything. Not likely. It took me about 2 weeks to get everything the way I want it.

I suppose I could always make a disk image and try it that way. It might just be easier buying a new dongle. But probably this wouldn't work either?

Please Help!!!

I think the easiest way (but costliest) is to buy a new dongle.
Go to a PC store where they have support, bring your laptop and ask them to install for you. If it not works, you dont buy. If it works you buy and all your problems solved.

Or just go to a PC store where they have support and ask them to install a BT dongle for you. Maybe they can help you over there.

I can say it's very hard after a while to help somebody over the intranet. I strongly recommend to bring your laptop to a technician.
