Help me please!!

I have just purchased a iPAQ h2210 and want to connect to the internet using my work pc. I have tried following the various guides on the site as well as the fixes in this forum, but I have to admit that I am a PPC virgin and don't really understand most of the jargon.

I have managed to get my device paired with my pc using a Bluetake BT007 and I can gain access to the pc just fine. When I try to load a web page I get a message saying page cannot be loaded.

Can someone please help me out with a step by step idiots guide to setting the damn thng up? Your help would be much appreciated.

I understand you can connect using the Network Access as desribed on this guide then?

If the connection is completed and you can see on your computer the Bluetooth icon turned green during the connection, then it can be a DNS problem, or a firewall problem.

You can try on your ocmputer checking the DNS addresses you have on your Bluetooth adapter. Also check that your don't have a personal firewall active. If you have the firewall and the connection works when it's off, then you might need to create a rule to allow the Bluetooth software to communicate through to the internet.

And make sure the ICS is set from the adapter that connects to the internet to the Bluetooth adapter, not the other way around.

Let's see how it goes...

Thanks for the reply,

Checked out what you said and found that both the blutooth adapter and the LAN connection are set to discover IP addresses and DNS servers automatically, there are no val;ues in the boxes.

If my company runs a firewall then will this stop my internet connection? How do I write a rule to get past it?

Have set ICS on the LAN connection not the bluetooth adapter.

Any more suggestions?

The Bluetooth adapter must have an address 192.168.0.1 for ICS to work, and you may enter the DNS server addresses there as well. The adapter connected to the LAN don't need an address, it can be set by the DHCP server.

Your company's firewall shouldn't be a problem.

I have changed the IP address on the bluetooth adapter. Where do I find DNS server addresses? Do i need DNS addresses for both bluetooth adapter and LAN connection?

You can try without. After connecting, try pinging a host like www.wired.com and see if it works. If not you can enter the DNS on your Bluetooth adapter only.

To find what DNS servers you're using, run a command window (Window Key + R and then enter CMD) and enter the command IPCONFIG /ALL.

This article lists some points to check, and has a link to VxUtil, a freeware that you can use for PING and other network commands.

Thanks for all of your help so far Mauricio,

I will be trying out your suggestions later today, will let you know if I have any success.

I have another question about theme generators, do you know of any that are compatbale with PPC 2003? I would like to create some themes for my iPAQ, but so far all of the generators I have found only support PPC 2002. Any ideas?

Thanks

Sorry about this, forgot to ask you this.

Is it possible to print from my iPAQ to my computer which is setup with a USB dongle. The printer is connected to the pc, no bluetooth device on the printer. Can this be done?

Hello,

I have tried to follow the settings that you ahve mentioned but I am still having no joy.

The setings for my BT adapter are:

IPaddress 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask 255.255.255.1
D.G - blank
DNS - blank

The settings on my LAN connection are:

All set to automatically assign IP addresses and DNS servers.

The settings on my iPAQ under connections are:

Networks set to My Work Network
Location set to Work
Network card connecting to work

Proxy server settings set to "this network connects to the internet" and nothing else selected.

The bluetooth PAN user driver is set to assign IP addresses automatically.

I am still getting PIE giving me the message " the web page you are looking for cannot be found" Have tried searching for http://207.68.172.246/ to check if the DNS was not working but the same message was displayed in PIE.

Are any of the settings listed above incorrect and what is my next move?

Thanks

You'll have to download VxUtil and try pinging as mentioned earlier. If pinging by IP address works, try using the DNS on your Bluetooth adapter.

Also, have you run \windows\welcome.exe? This set some configuration files used by Pocket Internet Explorer that you may have removed by accident from the root folder on your Pocket PC.
