Need JOB Advice: Looking to work 80 - 100 Hours per week

Hi everyone,

My name is Dean, I am currently looking for a Labor type job where I am able to put in 80 - 100 hours

per week, with a pay rate of $18 - $20 per hour to start off with, also would be good if they payed

double time or time and a half on weekends

I am currently in Whangarei at the moment but willing to relocate if needed is anyone aware of any

companies that are hiring that have this type of labor work with these insane hours up for grabs

Cheers everyone - Any questions welcome too

I used to do it at my last company Genera but they reduced the hours to around 40 - 50 just because the workload wentdown

I thrive when its hardcore 80 - 100 per week its just how I am

Start your own business.

At the start you will work long hours for low income, but will accrue capital, tax-free. You will also make mistakes, but those will also, ultimately, make you stronger. You will also eventually end up feeding more than yourself.

As time goes by, you will work long hours for greater reward.

Eventually you will sell the business and realize your capital, no tax to be paid. You will still work long hours.

lets do the math here if you work 100 hours a week that leaves 68 hours in the week for sleep, travel etc..

68 - 58 the number of hours you SHOULD be sleeping leaves 12 hours in the week!!! or just under 2 hours a day!
No reasonable employer would allow this nor would OSH. you may be able to do it on a once off basis but ongoing no way..

The views expressed by me are not necessarily those of my employer

Mate....  I'd be worried about your relationships if you work those hours.  If the stories I read are to be believed, nobody on their deathbed says "I wish I worked more".

I like the suggestion above of starting your own business.  Perhaps work a night job for 40 hours and your own business during the day.  Things to consider:

- Find an accountant based on a recommendation from a friend or family.  Ideally a small company that works from home so you'd be paying them about $100 per hour instead of $200 per hour for a flash company in a flash office.  Ask them for a free first half hour meeting (most will happily do this) and ask their advise on starting a business and how much you need to set aside in a separate tax account (about 1/4 of what you charge I would think).  WRITE DOWN AND FOLLOW THEIR ADVICE.

- Plan to keep your business earnings to well under $60,000 so you don;t have to charge and collect GST.  This will give you a pricing advantage against larger businesses.  Ask the accountant about this.

- Set up a separate bank account for the business and treat it separately to your own funds.  If you are buying lunch or other personal stuff using the business account, you are going to get yourself into strife.

- Have the accountant set you up with cheap accounting software that automatically downloads transactions from your bank account (e.g. MYOB Connected Ledger at $20 per month).  The expense is well worth it and will save you in accounting fees at the end of the year if they show you how to use it and classify the transactions.

- Think about your own safety...  working that many hours means you will likely be working tired and this puts you at greater risk.  You might be a superhero, but a dead superhero is no good to anybody or a superhero with one hand will find it much harder to support a family or pay the rent.

Good luck either way.

You are right about the relationships it does destroy them mainly being with a partner its impossible to maintain a relationship with these work conditions

Keep in mind I just need a good flood of real good cashflow coming from this type of job and hours, specifically for my drop shipping business

Another thing is I will only be for a period of time maybe 3 months maybe more then I can reduce the hours back down

For that time period there will be zero social life which I accept

However I do appreciate your input thank you

I was working 80-90 hours a week on an IT project..... but, it was only for a few months and I lived and breathed work during that time.   I certainly couldn't do this year in year out, and I think my health suffered a bit too as I was worn down.

Thanks man so Weta in Wellington, will def keep that in mind.

When you did your IT job for 80-90 hours a week did you maintain a healthy diet with good stretching and exercise?

I maintain my diet ketogennic its basically a medium protein very high healthy fats and little to no carbohydates, exercise in short periods of time (15min - 30min) workouts + stretching also medium amount of sleep

Another very important point too is i must reduce all stress, meaning anyone around me either it be friends or family ( negative ones ) I have to remove myself from them to maintain my state if mind and surround myself with my positive friends family

When I do thus I can do these type of hours.. Its still challenging though haha

I'd say the diet was pretty good, probably not much exercise going on at that time haha.

Rolling into work 6am, often leaving 8pm , 7 days a week. Didn't leave much time for exercise, but, I was contracting overseas so I earned enough to buy a house outright which was the encouragement factor.

I have staff that do 5 12 hours shifts for 60 hours per week and that is the absolute maximum I would let anybody to work. Any more than that and to be honest anybody would be come a liability and a safety hazard.

Its just not worth it for your health and mental well being.

There is no pricing advantage in this, GST isn't a 'business earning'. It is a consumer tax collected by businesses. Not collecting GST gives the impression of a lightweight Mickey-mouse type of business.

Perhaps YOU should ask an accountant about this.

My old job Genera they want people to live in there house complex that they build just for the workers lol

They had us doing 17 hour days some of the boys did 21 hours straight because they had to stay back and fumigate the ships etc

Then ask you to come back 5-6 hours later to do another whole day, some of the boys asked to start later, some

took a day off etc

But i mean that is what im looking for
