<troll>64 bits! Fingerprints! Slightly Better Camera! Ugly as new icons!</troll>

I was interested in the fact that the 5 is no longer being sold and the 4s is being kept on as the budget model - either the margins on the 5 are average, there isn't enough difference between the 5 and the new models, or they are trying to really differentiate the low end.

Buying a 5s from the Apple Australia site and getting a mate to ship it here is an option right? i.e. the iphones are sold unlocked?

The only apparent difference to me between the 5 and 5c is the case... lol :) So I'd say "Too similar to new product".

Yeah that'll work, though depending on the exchange rate and how badly Apple taxes Australia for the device you could end up spending a lot on customs fees when it arrives in NZ.

I assume the 5S price will be the same as the 5, which was the same as the 4S

The 4S was 869 I recall and 4 was 569 so I expect the 4S will be 569

Oh yeah, I forgot about Customs tax. AUS price for 32Gb is 1000AU which is approx 1130NZD. Not really worth it is when NZ Apple price would be about the same and without the customs tax possibility

The camera and the fingerprint scanner will be an easy upsell i imagine, assuming the scanner works as well as expected it would possibly be the most secure and simplest form of security to use on a daily basis

The camera itself will be enough to sell my wife on the idea of trading up from her 4s

You can only use TouchID to unlock the phone, or for AppStore purchases, so it isn't going to replace other content security (like passwords) for day to day use - not in it's current implementation, anyway, I'm sure it will come down the track.

But yeah, I can see it being a viable upgrade from a 4s, but I'm not seeing much to justify going from a 5 to 5s (let alone just the 5c) unless there's some sort of rebate incentives to trade up for a lower cost.

the Iphone5S is aimed at the Iphone4S user as that makes it the 2 year off contract purchase.

There is only a $100 US difference in prices between the 16GB 5S and the 5C,

its $130 difference in OZ and likely to around a $160-180 difference here,

The 5S is likely to cost the same as the original 5 (now unavailable from Apple NZ) @ around $1030 so the 5C will likely set you back $850 ish
