Hi there everyone.

Has anyone ever come across the 1015 error from iTunes when updating their iPhone or other iDevice? I purchased my iPhone 3GS off trademe, and went to upgrade to the latest firmware 4.3.5 last night, but in attempting this my iPhone has been rendered useless. It is simply stuck on the 'Connect to iTunes screen'. I am also unable to restore to previous firmware either.

Has anyone else come across this problem? Any help is much appreciated!

Has the Phone been "jailbroken" before? I have never seen a jailbreak "break" a phone in the past..
Is the phone a NZ phone (ie factory unlocked) or overseas phone which you will have to jailbreak to make work?

Try and put the phone into recovery mode and try again.

I believe it was fully unlocked, as I had it running on the XT network?
I have tried many times, and a few youtube tutorials to try and fix it. But i still cannot make it past the connect to itunes screen.
It was jailbroken, but i didnt want this. So i went to upgrade the software so it would take away the jailbreak, but now this has happened.

Put iPhone in DFU mode and try and upgrade. If stuck after it boots.. try tiny umbrella to knock it out of this mode.

Putting it back to older firmware usually doesn't work as the Apple Servers only allow usually to validate installing the latest version.

You have latest version of itunes installed?

Just tried from DFU mode. It still claims it is unable to do so , error 1015. Tries TinyUmbrella to 'Exit Recovery', but it still just boot to the Connect to iTunes screen.

Latest edition of iTunes, on pc.

Unbeleivable that Apple is able to do this

I am pretty sure the jailbreak is the thing which broke it so it was not upgradeable

Should i even try calling Apple? Will they even fix it for $$ if they know it has been jailbroken?

Take the sim card out and try again.

They usually don't "fix" iPhones.. just replace them with a refurnished iPhone when its broken and claimed under warrenty/CGA. I would say det your $$ back from the person who sold it to you. Unless they said "don't upgrade it because I jailbroke it" then you legally should be fine.

Saying all that.. I have fixed many people's iPhones in various states software wise and maybe able to get it into a usable state if you want to send it to me. The iPhone programs I have used in the past are usually much better in getting it sorted out than windows programs.

Have tried this both with, and without the sim card.

I think I will stay away from Apple. Im sure I will be able to fix it, I just need to take the time to do look into it more detailed. If not, I will try and get someone else to, perhaps you LennonNz

Take a look at your computers "hosts" file, if it contains a line like:

74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

Then remove it. The update should work after that

That line is put in by some jailbreak tools (like tinyumbrella) to redirect apple's check that validates the firmware. When doing a normal non-jailbreak update you need that line removed.

Hi Kxer and other friends... Were u able to find a solution to your I-Phone Error 1015 problem?

I am facing the same problem with my I-Phone 3GS. I bought the phone in India and got it unlocked in Singapore so that I can use it here. The phone was working perfectly till yesterday when I tried to update iOS 4.3.5 for my i-tunes. The phone went to recovery mode and is not stuck with a itunes logo and a USB chord showing up. When I try to restore, it shows an Error 1015 in the end and does not restore.

Can anyone help me with this?? Also please elaborate the response as I am quite a novice.

Thanks in advance
