Hi GZers, looking for a gaming desktop PC - ideally with a monitor. Needs to run Fotnite, Valorant etc. Located AKL & North Shore but can stretch to South AKL for pickups/viewings if necessary. The lad has ~$1000 to spend of his own money, so if anyone's upgraded recently and has something decent left over, please let me know 😀

How technologically capable are you and he? On that budget, you'd want to buy entirely used parts and build something piece by piece, and it's a tight budget. $200 for an okay monitor, $100 for a bottom of the barrel mouse, keyboard and headphones, leaves you $700 for the rest. Otherwise something like this on Trademe seems the path of least resistance - https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/computers/desktops/lcd-monitor/listing/4458841451

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

Speaking from experience ideally you want to spend a good length of time watching for occasional bargains on TM.  The do come up from time to time but it can take weeks of patience.  At that price there a lots sellers dreaming trying to pedal their obsolete systems at grossly inflated prices - you want to avoid these.

Yeah I can build PCs easily enough; so maybe a combo of FB / TM watching is the answer...

I also have a 12yo with the same budget. I'm happy to put it together with him, a good project together.

but, my inexperience is in which brands and model numbers are good/compatible
