Hey guys. A month or so ago I heard that chorus was dropping the price on its VDSL service to around the same price as ADSL2. Then today I found this article

I'm really excited for this since its pretty much the same price for their VDSL service as what I pay now for ADSL. ($3 more then I pay now for 100GB of data with snap).

Does anyone have an idea on when Snap will be lowering the prices of their service?

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

all very nice but i don't care about voyager's prices , i have been with Snap for 5-6 years so not leaving and i already have a Fritzbox 7340 and it wasn't free, so am waiting to see what the new prices are.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

That's all well and good, but if your wholesale VDSL costs have now dropped to the same as ADSL, and your customers know this has happened.... it would be nice to see an appropriate proportional adjustment to the customers costs also - to prevent from feeling slightly shafted.

Why?

The costs of providing a VDSL2 service and and ADSL2+ service to and end user are nowhere near identical.

Do you walk into McDonalds and ask why then the incremental costs of the of a Big Mac over a Cheeseburger are so minimal yet it's 3x the price?

all very nice but i don't care about voyager's prices , i have been with Snap for 5-6 years so not leaving and i already have a Fritzbox 7340 and it wasn't free, so am waiting to see what the new prices are.

This here. I really want to stay with Snap, and kinda have to because I don't want to pay the termination fee haha. So i would really like to stay with Snap and get that free Fritzbox as the router we have now is pretty crap.

So if I read that right, the changes to pricing should be in a few weeks?

yes but the point is, they were providing it happily before, now they can provide it for even cheaper but for some strange reason refuse too.

They are a business so there is nothing strange about it. I'd have to say that having looked briefly at the offerings from both Voyager and Full flavour, snap are still competitive. So... much as I hate to say it, and think they're missing out on grabbing new customers, I can understand why they're not doing anything right now, and I doubt they will until Telecom release their plans.

Welcome to the world of Economics 101.

Lets revisit McDonalds again. They sometimes offer coupons for Big Macs at significantly cheaper prices. Since McDonalds are the suppler of the product they aren't able to get the product any cheaper or get a rebate from their suppliers so one would conclude from this that they are still making money at this reduced price and therefore Big Macs could be cheaper all of the time. Do McDonalds drop their price?

No.

Why not? Welcome to the world of Economics 101.

Has anyone actually dealt with Voyager?
They are useless. They took over the company we used for SIP trunks for all our customers and they were bloody slow at getting things done.

Snap customer service is head and shoulders above most other ISPs - it is worth paying for.

Who cares what is taking a while... The current price is amazing value for money compared to ADSL2+ plans available just a year ago.

Perhaps they'd like to use the extra month of margin as cashflow to invest in keeping their network top notch - and get ready for a bunch of new users when they drop the prices.

Patience guys - Snap's one of the few ISPs to even offer VDSL and as they say, they are still competitive. The pricing review they have indicated is across several services and will come sometime soon.
Can you imagine what it would be like if they just went and dropped the prices and marketed them straight away? You could get everything from billing issues to plan switching issues to congested and overloaded national or international service.

Enjoy the service you're getting and be happy they will be planning things out properly, and stop treating it like they are trying to shaft you for extra profit for a month.
