Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

Hmmm, interesting you can get such high upstream for ADSL2+ but average downstream.

So usual questions apply as many have documented on Geekzone ad nauseum;
- type of modem
- where is it connected (master socket or secondary socket)
- have you called snap and asked for help

etc etc etc

I think you'll find that your 31db line attenuation is the issue. Either you are a long way from the cabinet / exchange or you have some fairly serious line issues.

Does your router have a spectrum graph? If so, post it up and we'll take a look.

Eved at 31dB, I'd expect a higher downstream sync than that in most cases.

Have you done an isolation test to bypass all your wiring including the new filter?

I did try to locate my cabinet from this post but can't find the cabinet name in the excel document.

Hmm, could be a few issues there. Would be interesting to see the results of your neighbour's line.

demarc ---master filter ---- modem
                         |
                          -------phone wire in the house.

master filter is up on the roof didn't play with that demarc box.

called Snap many times. usual story, call technician(meaning Chorus?) out and if they couldn't find any problem there will be a charge. which is $199 or something, same price before & after I install the master filter.

Can you connect the modem directly to the incoming line in the roof?

Did ask Snap to do another test on my line yesterday it will finish around 5.30pm

Just tested my neighbour's internet speed they are only getting 2.3Mbps with Telstra.

My street is on the edge of 10Mbps, and 20Mpbs zone is just a house down.

so is safe to say I am far away from the exchange?

So I'm stuck with this speed until UFB is here. which is another problem with Enable keep saying coming within the next 3 months! I already waited at least 2 Months and Snap web site saying UFB coming before end of this Months. don't know how Snap get their date from.

you expect Snap will know the date and you call up they go to Enable to check it.
Im feeling UFB will be here in a week or 2.

Is your property serviced by an aerial lead?
If so I would put money on the fact it is an old tru-rip cable and not an 049.

At 30dB you should see around 10Mbps.

Only option to get this fixed is log a fault and hope you get a decent Chorus tech. This won't be a chargeable fix though so don't worry about wiring charge.

Look outside to see if the lead in cable is an aerial one, as opposed to buried under ground.
