The first time i phoned slingshot it took me 1hr to get a customer rep.

So far its 40 minutes and still counting!

My average spend is $120 a month on internet and tolls and i feel im getting the dirty.

Next time im gona phone them from my cellphone.

ANYWAY has anyone been having extremely variable performance with them. Yesterday i was downloading from Microsoft at 2.5mg a second - GREAT. Today it takes me 10 min to get to google!

Dialup is faster. I downloaded their test file from their local ftp and im gettign 2.5mg a second down.

Obviously they arnt buying any international capacity. ITS JUST S***T. Everytime i phone them I get fobbed off that its my line and they give me a speed test sheet! WHY IS IT ONLY INTERNATIONAL TRAFFIC U IDIOTS!

What about everyone else. Im in MT albert just off mt albert road and sandringham

Time to change ISP....slingshot is hopeless....call centre staff is rude and not very helpful (NZ staff i've spoken to is even worse).....try Xnet or Ihug

Do whatever you want to do man.

Orcon have always provided excellent service and I get great speeds. Now hitting 7+Mbit

Update.
Waited for an hour and ten minutes.
Got disconnected at 10:00 when their service centre closed.
APPALING!

I haven't noticed much on my slingshot connection, I hardly use it nowdays (but others in the flat do) but speedtests for overseas sites came back ok.

Hearing their contact center practices of dropping people when closing is a tad excessive... would it be too hard to answer the remaining calls in the queue?

Alternatively open 24-7 like a certain ISP does.

The only problem is unless you have very advanced queuing technology, it's impossible to stop new people joining the call queue without closing it completely.

Slingshot have never had a good rep for service.

Couldn't they just change the IVR to an alternative IVR at a certain time... without the option to join the queue?

But slingshot were voted the most popular ISP weren't they?
I am having no problem with Slingshot, I live in Royal Oak (Auckland).

Perhaps my expectations are different to you though:

I expect to be kept waiting for at least 20 minutes when calling their help desk (same as Vodafone and Telecom for me).

I expect my broadband speed to be slow (The providers don't even promise specific speeds any more).

I have only been back in NZ for 6 months after being overseas for a long period, but the service here really is appalling!
If you decide to walk away from Slingshot, beware. The opposition are just as likely to be as bad.

You might as well just go for the cheapest provider, and bear the rubbish service...

I think the transparent proxy (a NetApp device) that Slingshot implemented a while ago isn't helping HTTP performance.

We've switched back to using Xnet in the past couple of weeks and it's much faster.

internationals speeds were crap for me too last night, on slingshot and also on the Mt Albert exchange...

their adsl sure does have a wide variance in speed lol.....

I had inconsistent speeds all lat month, I complained and got a $15(ish) credit against my $24.95 fee.

Some people on the slingshot forum have gone to Xnet as they are the 2nd cheapest.

Update:
reveived an email back about the courses of my slow internet.
It just had a link to check my firewall and proxy settings. GREAT!

So then I phoned up (waited 40min in the cue) and after telling them that their FTP server was superfast
they still tried to tell me that it was my line. Eventually they got the point it wasnt my line.

The service rep even told me his internet with slingshot was bad! hahahahaha
He said "its like a motorway, if you have lots of people on it then the traffic will go slow"
NO ***T but then you build another line or put in another lane. You invest in infrastructure otherwise people
leave for another city or country - in this case even xtra would be better.

Its not that the southern cross cable is at capacity its just they wont buy the capacity. Its just frustrating.
Tonight is slightly better.

Was getting 2500kbs down this morning
Tonight its down to around 280kbs on the last speedtest. Better than the 60kbs last night.

So anyway i am giving them tomarrow and then ill be on the phone demanding a credit / seeing if i can leave them straight away.

I love their broadband for beginners ads. Maybe its broadband for beginners because when u learn - like a motorbike your limited to 250kb - like a 250cc motorbike :)
Good marketing slingshot... :)

I use my broadband for video conferencing during the evenings at home.
I have alot of family in England and also family in Japan.
I must say that slingshots performance has improved hugely tonight.
Was getting 500kb sec down for for a while so thats an improvement over last night.
Just dont understand the variability they have.

I wouldnt mind it under a meg a second 500kb is fine. Its just got to be usable internet right.
