Hey guys,
I've just moved rural and I've been told my grid suggests I'm probably 1-3mb Internet speeds (or something like that). The thing is I had the Chorus technician come around and he said I'm under 4km (~3.4-3.7km max) from the main internet exchange for the town and apparently that means I get faster broadband than if I were over 4km away from it? Can someone please explain if that is likely to be the case with me or am I missing something? I'm not the most Internet savvy!
The results from the first test I ran on my Asus Modem (wireless connection from other end of house) were as follows, but quickly dropped below 1mb/s:
Download: 1.21 mb/s (the highest I got on another test was still only 1.78 mb/s, but mainly between 1.08-1.30)
Upload: 0.19 mb/s
Ping: 15ms
It was after I moved the modem into my room and plugged in an Ethernet cable that speeds dropped to almost unusable.
After getting frustrated with the Asus modem I bought a Belkin N600DB to see if that made a difference. Internet is still slow as anything. So slow that it almost can't run the speed test now, it's getting a 0.05-0.1 mb/s download speed and 15 ping, so not sure there.
I've got this information from the interface of the modem and would be great if someone could help me figure out what's going on here!!!:
ADSL
Connection Type Interleave Path
Status Show time
Down Up
Data Rate 920 kbps 377 kbps
Noise Margin 16.0 dB 13.4 dB
Output Power 13.1 dbm 12.5 dbm
Attenuation 68.7 dB 37.5 dB
Our house is a brand new build and the Chorus technician had to replace two copper pars on our street before hooking up the connection if that makes a difference/gives some sort of clue.
Much appreciated!
