Hi
Long story short, I have the old genius modem/router but it always disconnects my work vpn after a few minutes. I asked orcon politely if I could get a different modem and was firmly told no. Last week the old genius modem got hacked and was providing dodgey dns to the dhcp clients. I looked at the config and couldn't see any dns settings manually configured, after performing a factory reset on it, it no longer did this but I'm no longer confident in it, I'm not sure if the firmware is compromised or not. So I thought an option would be to get a non orcon branded NF4V given that its what orcon hand out now and would have the best chance of being compatible.
Orcon helpdesk has told me that I'll never be able to use VOIP on this modem because it requires the mac/serial of the modem that is provided by them.
So 3 questions.
1. is the above true re mac/serial
2. Can I get the original genius modem to provide voip functionality via another modem or is it the WAN mac that they are looking at?
3. Can I configure the non orcon branded NF4V to support the voip service? if so can anyone provide information on the config
After browsing these forums I have got it to the point with the NF4V where the voip service registers, I get dial tone and can make outbound calls. But inbound calls go straight to voicemail. Am I missing a simple config item or is it just not possible without an orcon supplied modem? I'm hoping that if it is possible then someone could provide a few screenshots of how orcon configures the sip settings. Or is it possible to use orcons provisioning server with this modem to get their firmware and if so what settings would I be using the in tr069 config?
Thanks
