what did 2degrees say when you called them? wait, have you actually called them about your situation?

when you first weren't able to access the net, did you call them to get some trouble shooting assistance. is it a 2 degrees supported handset? did you have the correct internet apn loaded?

I seem to remember that someone from 2D said that not all LG fones work with the auto config function.  Mine didn't and had to do it manually..

Yes I know whats happening, as I went through it at 8pm last night.

My new 2 Degrees phone (Samsung C3110), had no preloaded settings for internet.

When I first typed in a web address and said connect, it said "check browser settings".

Then when I typed in some stuff I thought might be right, it would try connect and say "network unavailable".

It wasn't until I got home and checked the pinned GeekZone "2 Degrees settings" thread, that I found the CORRECT settings, entered them into phone, and it went straight after that!

APN (Access Point Name) is the configuration setting your handset uses to access mobile data in the network. Each operator uses its own.

So the questions are:

Did you buy the handset from 2degrees? If you did then it should just work, unless the cofigurations are wrong for some reason, or you have changed the settings. If you reset the handset to factory it should just work again. You find this option around the Settings menu.

If you did not buy the handset from 2degrees then you have to manually change the settings, or request these. As someone posted not all LG are capable of receiving the settings, meaning you have to manually enter those. These APN are, again, in the Settings menu.

Here is a list of APNs for New Zealand mobile operators for you to use.

If you configured the handset correctly and it still doesn't work you should test this SIM card in another handset that you know for sure works with mobile data. If it works when you use your SIM then you know the problem is with your handset. If it doesn't work then you the problem is in your account - in which case 2degrees should help with that.

As for your last question, "is 2degrees ripping me off", unless the problem is with the account (unlikely) I would say NO.
