Hi,
I have 2 degrees and have been using it fine in Auckland since this part of the city is well covered in 3G Broadband zone. But I had to use GPRS networks in Tokoroa and tried find what the coverage is like. From the 2 degrees website, the map was not really accurate and so I ended up dropping by the store and asked the staff. He said they are using the vodafone network there so the coverage is the same as vodafone, but I need to purchase national data pack which allows nation-wide networks. So I did. (Mind you this was an important issue because I had to show some product to the client and it required internet connection on my phone.) So I went down there and no internet whatsoever! Luckily I could borrow someone else's vodafone sim, and it didn't end in disaster, but I'm still frustrated! It would have been much better if the website had more detailed information or the staff could have warned me on this issue.

Correct 2Degrees do use the Vodafone network in Tokoroa

Tokoroa has good 3G extended coverage maybe the handset you are using does not support 3G 900Mhz

What handset do you use?

John

If you're in a VF-roaming area on 2degrees and need data, just change to VF. It'll be cheaper.

You need to make sure you have "use roaming data" on on your phone.

Where did you buy your phone from? GSMarena isn't always accurate with band coverage for handsets. (Because there are so many regional variants)

GSM Arena lists "all models" not individual models. It's misleading, and some handset may not have all bands on a single model.

In other words, look at the box to see which bands YOUR handset supports.

Its strange that the phone worked with a Vodafone sim and not a 2degrees SIM. If you have national data and data roaming on then it should work. Its the same (Vodafone) network in Tokaroa, so it should be the same network performance whether you have a Vodafone or 2degrees SIM in your phone.

Check your phone is set to accept 2G and 3G (GSM/WCDMA) not just 3G only.  Make sure 'Data Roaming' is 'ON' and your APN is 'Internet'.

If it's still failing PM your #.

Cheers
