Hi all, first of all apologies if this is not the right forum for this post - it's my first day.

I have a Samsung TV (model LA32D450G1M) which has suddenly lost all DTV channels and will no longer tune in any of them through the auto tuning (or manual) feature. Analogue is working and I can get a fuzzy picture through a few of the ATV channels.

I moved house yesterday, set up the TV with the digital aerial and it tuned in to most digital channels (except TV3 & Four) perfectly first time. I was watching the Sevens while waiting for Telstra to come and install broadband. Eventually Telstra came and installed broadband, and weirdly this is when the TV went wrong.

While the technician was installing the modem and router, the TV was on and I was in the other room and heard the TV sound go off. I thought he must have unplugged it to plug in the router, but when I came out the TV was still on and had the 'Weak or no signal' message displayed. I didn't think too much of it because at my last house this would happen sometimes and a tweak of the aerial position would fix it.

So anyway the technician left after setting up broadband successfully and I turned the TV off and went out. Later when I came back and turned it back on I discovered the DTV channels were all showing the 'Weak or no signal' message. I went into the menu and went through the auto-tuning function several times, with no joy. After a few times I noticed that the auto tuning is now only starting from channel 5, channels 1 thru 4 no longer even exist?

I used google to try and find a solution and ended up doing a factory reset on the TV, but the situation hasn't changed after that. So I'm hoping someone here might have had a similar problem and be able to point me in the right direction to getting my DTV channels back again!

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you have /had a poor connection & he disturbed it, or pulled it out.
Check the antenna connection/s working back from the Tv

Thanks, yeah I have tried unplugging the aerial from the TV and the wall. Also tried unplugging everything, moving the wifi router as far away from the TV/aerial as possible. But maybe I need to move the TV and aerial into a different part of the room. Will try that.

The issue is clearly a signal related one. What type of aerial do you have are ane you using the correct connections?

Yeah classic, you had an contractor in the house that was playing with................. RG6 feeds about the place, while he was there mysteriously one of thoses RG6 feeds to the TV looses connection. Obviously there could be numerous reasons why you would loose signal, but I think the culprit is obvious.......... no? Pity you never mentioned it at the time.

When I was doing antenna and cabling installation work I would always check other services before I left to confirm I had not un intentionally dropped something offline.

Edit, obviously I would only check related services (ie Telstra HFC and Sky etc) no other plumbing.

Thanks for your replies. I have moved the TV to another part of the room, as close to the outside world as possible and nothing's changed, the aerial is connected well and powered up, so I don't think it's a problem with that. Also that would not explain why DTV channels 1 thru 4 have dissapeared from the TV itself (e.g. they would still be there with 'weak signal' message if it was an aerial issue?).

I don't know anything about 'RG6 feeds' etc unfortunately, but it does seem like the Telstra broadband installation has something to do with the problem. I have tried unplugging the modem and router to see if that was interfering with the signal, without success. Is there something else I can do to check/fix that? Thanks.

I should also make clear that the aerial I'm using is a standalone 'rabbit ears' digital dick smith aerial and is not coming out of the wall anywhere, it is not connected to the broadband cabling in any way.

You sure the TV is set to the correct input for the aerial?

common sense is not very common

Check you cabling again , you can even try an internal aerial temporarily

The TV has only one source selection for TV (others are PC, HDMI, USB etc) which is selected. It used to start-up on 'DTV' channels and then move on to 'ATV' channels as you went through the channels with the remote. Now only 'ATV' channels are available.

As stated previously I am using an internal 'rabbit ears' style digital aerial which was working fine up until yesterdays. It is not coming out of the wall or connected to the Broadband cabling in any way.

Thanks.

One could conclude from that information that you're using an internal antenna and were very lucky to be getting a signal. I would pick that this antenna has now been moved which has caused the signal to be lost.

Internal antennas are really only any good in high signal areas, which presumably you're not in.

For Freeview|HD reception an exernal antenna is the recommended (and best) approach.

Use a digital approved internal Ariel with amplifier or use external arial as suggested by Biddle

That will be the problem.
Install an external antenna on the roof. Your antenna was barely able to provide a signal and now it doesn't. Just moving cabling about or installing more cable was enough to wipe out what signal it was getting.

Its called the cliff effect, if you have a dodgy signal (that an indoor antenna will easily supply) then it can go from going to not going with only minor enviromental changes.

Ok so the consensus seems to be that it's a case of getting an external aerial installed. I will contact the landlord and check that they are ok with that. Thanks for all responses, much appreciated!

Try turning the Telstra cable modem off, just a thought
