I’ve just purchased a new second hand wide-screen television and it only has 2 SCART sockets on the back.

I plan on purchasing a SCART to SCART cable to go from my Sky box to the TV.

I realise I need to go into the advanced setup of the Sky box to configure the SCART connection.

My question is what option do I select - Component video, S-Video or RGB - thanks in advance.

It all depends on what the TV accepts, but the quality order worst to best is Composite, S-video, Componen and RGB.

Thanks for that info. I ended up ringing SKY and they are sending out the cable, so thats a bonus.

If it's a European based TV, like a Grundig, or similar, then the SCART is ONLY RGB, not component video. And a standard SKY decoder box doesn't do RGB, only component.

Yep, been caught out on that one in the past ... ;-(

This is incorrect ALL Sky boxs do RGB, the older TP2/TP3 based processor ones such as Zenith and Pace DSR600 however dont do component.

Thanks for the info. It's a Sanyo CP32WF2 which I think is a NZ specific model (I went to www.sanyo.co.nz to get the user manual) so I think I should be okay.

No, only YPbPr Component video, not RGB Component Video. Was even in the decoder specs that it was YPbPr video.

Connecting YPbPr video output to RGB TV inputs gives a B&W only picture.

I've had the decoder since 2003, so maybe an older model - it's been a few years since I had to mess around with the setup.

Nevermind, the TV in question is a Sanyo, so the point is probably moot anyway :-)

Ummm, not going to say it again, but all decoders do RGB only STi based decoders do both RGB and Component (YPbPr). Sti decoders appeared in the early 2000's the TP2/TP3 decoders were the ones released on day one in mid 98.

As regards the Sanyo, if its one of those Wharehouse supplied ones then they have a nasty colour cast that cannot be corrected, try another set.

Regards
Cyril
