langi27: so what happens to any extended warranty?s you brought directly through the Next extended warranty website?

Look at your policy, and then try contacting the underwriter. Quite often, warranties that are retail branded are just being resold on behalf of an underwriter, or larger insurance company.

firstandten: Null and void I guess.

I would agree, unless someone else picks up the obligation.

I haven?t got any warranties with Next but was looking into it the other day for a vacuum cleaner I purchased. The extended warranty was half the price quoted at Noel leeming.

The policy is directly with Next, so I would assume that if they have closed their offices your stiff out of luck.
A receiver would probably view any outstanding warranties as a liability its not like you could on-sell the warranties to a new buyer why would anyone pay for a bunch of warranties that are only going to cost you time and more money down the track. Unless that is if the receiver pays someone to take the warranties.

Not if they were underwritten by another company. Check the paperwork for the warranty and see if it says who the underwriter is. I could be wrong but I think it is compulsory for them to be underwritten by a company with an approved credit rating as they are deemed to be insurance policies and regulated as such.

Just received:

Samsung servicing unaffected by Next receivership

There will be little disruption to Samsung New Zealand customers following the announcement this week that local service company Next Electronics Servicing Ltd has been placed into receivership.

The receivership announcement affects only Next Electronics-owned branches – it does not extend to Next agents. Samsung is contacting all agents to establish a direct relationship with them with immediate effect so as to provide ongoing support to consumers.

Service requirements in the Auckland area have not been affected by the receivership. Service will continue to be undertaken by the Samsung Customer Service Plaza, including that which would have previously been carried out by Next Electronics’ Hamilton branch.

Unaffected by the receivership is nationwide service for Samsung monitor, mobile phone and camera products which are handled by the Samsung Customer Service Plaza. Similarly, printers, PC and IT products are not affected by this announcement. Whitegoods products are handled by Next Electronic agents, with whom Samsung is forming direct relationships.

Samsung has also entered into a new agreement with Visual Group to look after Samsung service work that would have previously been carried out at Next’s Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin branches
Samsung customers who have service requests should contact 0800 SAMSUNG. Retailers with questions are encouraged to contact their local Samsung representative, or phone 0800 SAMSUNG.

On this note - does anyone know who the official repair agent for Apple purchased iPhones is? VF-NZ gave Mobilefone Rescue as the repairer, but they claim to have nothing to do with Apple repairs.

The Apple site redirects to the Vodafone site as the official repair supplier, which in-turn redirects to the Apple site at the bottom of the page.

This is like an IRL loop of death! Fortunately, this is only for an internally owned device at the moment - but I want to get the process sorted before it starts to affect customers!

Any ideas?

Cheers, Jeff

Purchased out-right from Apple store / online - one of the two.

It doesn't really make much difference, as long as it's clear it wasn't purchased from Vodafone as part of deal or plan bundle ergo, Vodafone/Brightpoint will not take responsibility for the warranty repair locally it would seem.

Brightpoint is responsible for supplying you with a refurbished unit. No-one in NZ is licenced by Apple to repair iPhones. If you bought it off Apple then you need to contact them directly and explain the situation as they are legally obligated to resolve a warranty issue as per the consumer guarantees act.

Call Apple Tech support on 00800-7666-7666 and they will trouble shoot and then instruct you on what to do.

Hope this helps.
