When tablet hits the water is only an issue if the rinse water is replaced before the wash cycle. Then some of the cleaner would be discsrded. Some units reuse the rinse water unless it is very dirty.

With ours I've had best results just putting the tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher from the get go.

Probably unrelated, we have a Bosch (never again after 2), and the only way the tablet dissolves and the dishes get cleaned is on their two longest hottest cycles. I feel misled and Bosch support were utterly unsympathetic.

Bugger, especially for a top brand. We stopped using tablets but the issue was the low or non operating spinny things. Will retry tablets once the powder runs out

Couple of first hand points recently:

1) We tried some cheaper powder (Active I think it was, instead of Finish?) and everything started coming out covered in cloudy lime/calcium hard water type film.

Took us a while to work that one out. Did the dishwasher cleaner thing, which looked really good, but didn't fix the real core issue above.

2) As above, we pre rinse and use the dish washer to finish. If we don't, we find pieces of the meal sprayed over everything else.

1. Do you use rinse aid? Depending on how hard the water is even all-in-one tablets improve with some rinse aid.

2. We only scrape and make sure there's no coffee grounds in the pot but use longish cycle last thing at night.

We use tablets but still use rinse aid even if it is included in the tablet. Also check the filters etc at the bottom of the cleaner and filters if fitted on the water inlet pipes.

You need the heat to make the detergent work. Short cycles in a dishwasher are generally pointless unless whatever you're putting in is already nominally clean, IMO

Our Bosch has the short cycle that we use for things like glasses or cups that don't really have much on them. Anything else we use the 45 degree longer cycle or for very full load or mucky load we use the 60 degree cycle. The higher Temps activate the soap, deal to germs and help prevent the machine from getting blocked.

I have Bosch everything. Some have travelled the seven seas with us. All still working like new. ONe even got dropped a few feet and still works, although munted.

I agree the dishwashers need to be hot and long to clean well with the Finish tablets. I have no issues with that - I think you need to buy a DW that uses a lot of water if you want short cycles, I think the Bosch is a greem washer that uses very little water. And might need different tablets or use powder if you want to use milder temperatures.

I always just use the superwash cycle on my antique simpson. Who cares if it uses a few cents more power, I would rather get stuff clean first time without arsing about pre-washing everything to be almost clean and soaking the stuck on stuff etc.

IMO cutting down the cycle time unless it is exclusively full of coffeecups is a false economy since there will always be something that needs another go.

Like others here, we replaced an ancient ASEA with a Bosch recently, and it is absolutely fantastic, apart from having trouble with mildly serrated steak knives. We use the cheaper Finish tabs and finish liquid. Fantastic machine, especially at the price from Magness-Benrow.
