What are the blinds like?

Are they mess or solid, just wondering about performance in wind and keeping the warmth in - if I put one of those outdoor heaters in as well?

Are the fixed to the ground or in side channels?

They are a mesh with wire guide lines that fix to the foot of the post.

I modified our pergolas and attached one side to the house.

All up cost about $5k.

Did you have someone modify the pergola or do that yourself. I wondered about doing something similar - we have a similar L shaped corner to put it into. There would be one post that would annoy me.

I also wondered about getting a flashing for between the pergola and the spouting? Do you find rain comes down there?

How do you find the colour. The dark would suit our house better, but I was concerned it would make the lounge a bit dark and white might give it a lighter feel?

There is clearlite "flashing" to fill in the gap. That part of the roof is water tight, its that actual pergola that can let heavy rain through.

I modified the pergola with help from the father in law.

I contemplated attaching the other side to the house and removing the far post. Decided against it as to the added complexity and wanted to have the blinds which attach to the posts.

We chose the matte black to match the spa and it actually adds a bit of heat from the sun.

looks great how does it handle wind?, the trade tested ones are 75k and one a nz brand is 120. Have you had any issues on windy days?

Haven't had any issues with the wind, but we are quite sheltered here. They recommend to leave the louvres open in high winds.

If it is attached to a house, wouldn't it require council consent due to it being roofed? There seem to be some grey areas about what needs a consent and doesn't.

If it is 20m^2 or less it doesn't require consent. This is why I went for 2 separate, adjacent pergolas.

There doesn't seem to be a limit in size of a pergola, but it must not have a roof.

A veranda can have a roof and be attached to a building, but has to be no greater than 20m^2.

I don't believe so, they are two independent structures. I think the rational is that the engineering for a bigger structure is different to a smaller structure. So two smaller structures would have the correct engineering AFAIK.

Haven't had any issues with the wind, but we are quite sheltered here. They recommend to leave the louvres open in high winds.

If they are not joined then they are two structures. It's about the engineering not site coverage.

A 10m2 square pergola would be engineered for X amount of uplift. A 20m2 pergola requires additional engineering - eg it would likely have 6 posts rather than 2 X 4
