1101: I remember when cladding salesmen were a synonym for scam artists :-)
Not a bad movie really - Danny DeVito & Richard Dreyfuss - I do remember con's they pulled for a sale.
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
Our last place was a 1940 character style home. We re roofed it with colour steel and tech screws. Re clad with weatherboard, many nails. Insulated walls at same time. All windows and doors are double glazed aluminium. Warm, quiet and Id hang there in a 9.0 EQ all day long.
Latest place is larger, 2 level, Celcrete which is 50mm lightweight panels. Only gripe is it has a concrete tile roof, bit of weight there?.

@Disrespective How about these heat treated pines that are used for cladding which seem to be quite a new type of product.?
The thermowood stuff?
It uses a chemical/heat process to convert the timber cells so there is much less moisture, and no room for more to be absorbed. Or something like that. They market it as a hardwood alternative that can be treated like cedar (it can be simply oiled or stained, but still needs general maintenance coats)
I think the process came from Finland or somewhere in the 90's so simply hasn't had enough time in NZ environment to get a good feel for long term quality.
Cedar is still considered the 'best' timber option but, in my opinion, the knotty stuff is dangerous as cedar is prone to cupping which makes the boards likely to throw their knots out. This then leaves a decent sized hole in your cladding... as you can imagine this isn't ideal.

The cladding probably outlasted the Cadillacs they bought with their ill-gotten gains. They got scammed too.
