China seems way ahead on 3D printed buildings. It'd be nice to see some Kiwi ingenuity.

Any that say 'expected 20xx' or 'due to begin 20xx' can be taken as 'we really want this to happen but there's a 75-25 possibility of this not happening this year, if ever'

Interesting concepts/studies but with NZ's building code requirements for weathertightness and structural integrity we won't see any form of printed buildings here for some time i'm afraid. Maybe some claddings, but even those would need to be rain screens more than actual weather barriers. Certification for that sort of thing is long and expensive, and from my experience with 3D printing the integrity of the print is never exactly the same if you're using a FDM approach. This renders any certification almost irrelevant.

I really want it to happen, but don't see it becoming even close to main stream in my lifetime.

I've always liked the idea of building my own house, and 3D printing it would be even better!

The brick laying robots show some promise, but the ones I've seen are not quick, and the brick is only a veneer.

3D printing in concrete might be possible for small structures if fibre reinforced concrete gets to the point where rebar is not necessary.  I suspect that if you print a thin layer of concrete around the perimetre of a building, by the time you get to adding the next layer, the first layer might have formed a 'skin' which might weaken the bond between layers.
