Has anyone replaced their old shower mixer (11 years old) with a new sleek one. I am renovating my bathroom and I just want to change the look and the cartridge as well. I believe that I just have to use the same valve or what they call t-piece abroad. I was in touched by one of the plumbers and asked if the shower mixer I bought would work. He said that it would not but did not give me any of his opinion of what would work when I asked.

The obvious check would be whether you have high or low pressure hot water. Equal high and the range is big, the bigger the pressure differences, the more restricted your options are for good mixing units.

Is that your mixer or just a picture of one you've found? That image also appeared on reddit about a year ago.

The photo with a face plate is from reddit, you're right. I found it when researching of what I currently have. I've contacted Methven customer service but I still got no reply from them.

One of the plumbers suggested tearing the wall at the back and doing the replacement through there. But, together with fitting a new shower rail, vanity tap, and putting an old bath spout, he quoted me NZ$1225. I am providing the shower rail, bath spout, vanity tap and shower mixer. His service fee is too steep.
