I would like some advice from anyone that have installed garage shelving and or storage unit.
I have seen on trademe, Fb market place, trade tested, bunnngs/M10 all the different shelving and storage options.

Questions I have that I hope you can help
a. Do you have shelves only or you have both?

b. are shelves depth critical? I see some at 50cm, 54cm and 60cm?

c. What other factors should I consider?

thank you

If you get the shelving units that consist of metal frames and MDF or similar shelves, be aware that unless you get pricey commercial-storage-grade ones they'll be made of the thinnest Chinesium you can get away with and sway and flex alarmingly when you put stuff on them, so add packers behind them and screw them into studs for stability.  Also consider sealing the edges of the MDF if your garage gets damp.

Depth needs to take what you plan on putting on it. I find that the 1800 long rack-its from bunnings are great and have probably 20 bays worth around the place. They will take 4 normal fishbin type things facing end out per 1800 section. or 5 of the GT cube boxes with a little left over.

I have some of the 900 high ones that I have used as a work surface under a window, the rest are all 1800 or 2100 high depending on the headroom above them. No point putting a shelf where you cant put anything ontop of it.

The MDF is very mould prone so paint it up if the place is at all damp.

I use cupboards as per link.  Makes it look a lot neater but you will struggle storing larger items. For that I use an open rack like you have linked, using storage cubes.

Some gardening tools are kept on wire shelves

A few years ago when I tidied up my garage I invested in a number of the pinnacle storage solutions from Bunnings.

Pricey but very good quality and i like the flexibility and modularity of it. You can add to over time as its all designed to fit together.

thank you to all of you they replied

I had MDF board initially and the thin frame, that was an experience.

I seen one Fielding company that advertised on FB, all the metal, and here are their prlces

2m x 2m x 600mm $320.00
2m x 2m x 500mm $300.00
4m x 2m x 500mm $570.00
4m x 2m x 600mm $600.00
6m x 2m x 500mm $790.00
6m x 2m x 600mm $840.00

which I thought was not that bad

(NOTE : I AM NOT AFFILIATE TO THEM)

My concern is that then the garage looks like a supermarket.
I like the modular approach as mentioned by Senecio.

Do you (like me today), treat your garage like a storeroom? or like a mini workshop?

200kg per shelf implies it's not the most heavy-duty construction... another option if you have a means of moving it is to get ex-commercial shelving off TM, that stuff is indestructible but only affordable at second-hand prices.

I have something that looks very much the same that came from Mitre 10. I think several outfits sell that shelving and stick their own name on it.

It does the job for a good price.

A friend recently installed 3 black shelves side-by-side from https://www.racknco.co.nz/racking-shelving and they've been very happy with it, we are considering getting some of the same for our garage.

I did 50x50 battens to frame with floor to ceiling struts across the front at 1200mm and 13mm ply. Used bugle head screws to hold it together.
