FYI:
ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 is Astra Zeneca
BNT162b2 is Pfizer
Worth adding that it took 10-14 days for any clear effect to show up. Fig below from Supp. App. to the above Harris et al Letter

Yes, sorry, thought that would be obvious to most here.
(Added note at bottom of first post. Agree, worth clarifying. Thanks)

Worth noting that the Harris et al data are from Jan & Feb 2021 and therefore pre-date the presence of the Delta variant in the UK. Hence the results cannot be assumed to hold for the Delta variant.
Also one qualification noted by the authors was that "Studies that involved active follow-up of contacts and that used serologic testing have shown higher rates of household transmission than were observed in our study; bias could occur if case ascertainment differed between household contacts of vaccinated persons and those of unvaccinated persons."
At the time they did not have data for fully vaccinated index cases in a household setting.

I think Delta variant is already 90% of new cases in the UK. ...
In early June appears to have risen to 99% (!!!) of UK cases according to this article
https://www.barrons.com/articles/uk-vaccinations-delta-variant-rising-51624020189
"Delta variant cases rose by 33,630 in the week to June 8, to a total of 75,953, a 79% increase on the previous week, the PHE data revealed.
It also showed that 99% of cases in the U.K., sequenced and genotyped to identify variants, were the Delta variant.
As of June 14, a total of 806 people have been hospitalized with the variant, an increase of 423 on the previous week. PHE said 527 of those were unvaccinated, with only 84 of the 806 having been fully vaccinated."
Batman: Chinese vaccine trial in NZ. I hope they don't look for people to get covid in this trial as they won't find any (for now anyway).

Yeah, I'm guessing its looking for safety and tolerance issues rather than efficacy

I assume this is to test tolerance of the vaccine, not efficacy (hardly possible to do in NZ).
Also I note "NZCR is still recruiting participants for the ReCov study and offers just over $3000 in compensation. A large number of participants tended to be students or younger workers."
I can see how this would be attractive to many (especially as a second gen vaccine and hence hopefully, safer). But do hope there will be no interaction with a later Pfizer jab. Perhaps that should also be tested?

not really surprising,
The Kent variant pretty much became the dominant variant in the UK ( with over 90% of cases) in late Jan/Early Feb, its now being replaced by a variant that is even more efficient at spread

No CT cases picked up so far from the "Wellington incident", but I guess we're a few days away from as close as an "all clear" can be given and level 2 reduced (all going well - then Sunday).
11 new cases in Sydney, they've got a few now not known to be linked to other cases or clusters or places of interest. One new CT case in Vic, 3 cases in quarantine in Qld - they record those as "CT" even though the index case was known and the cases all ringfenced in quarantine.

Yeah, tomorrow is probably the big decider, but testing numbers really need to be out of the park....
The signs are positive, ( 4 NZ close contacts initially testing negative) + partner also negative and asymptomatic (although they had also received an initial vaccine dose)
Thursday/Friday is well into the 3-5 Day window for symptom development so is a good time to heavily test..
Thank goodness this Australian visitor downloaded our app and was a diligent scanner.
We have been given a chance to roll this back, as they got tested promptly, and we have details of where they were.
You're a Star.

Yip,
If we get out of this unscathed everyone in Wellington owes them many virtual beers...

It sounded like they did everything right, and I don't think anyone should blame them. It was the system that failed, where they should have closed the border last week when it was obvious that NSWs outbreak was growing.
