Wellington has already recently had 1 delta case in the community, but only went into level 3, to gauge if anyone else had caught it. But in that case the person had logged where they had been, and had then returned to Oz. It is why scanning is so important. Level 3 isn't really a lockdown.

Scanning wont change unless it's mandatory. Thats a fact. Humans are humans. I come from a farm, its easy to control sheep. Many of us are sheep. But we aren't controlled. If we were human rights kicks in. Times like this you probably need a dictator, so you can manage the plebs. But we dont have that, we have a whining  Government running things and whining Opposition who oppose for the sake of it.So we end up with a passable, average situation, based on upsetting the least people, not the best solution. However, it has worked out. Hindsight. Labour went hard and went early, National after two weeks said its too much its too long. Then, no one knew the best solution, it could have gone either way. Now that we are there, it went the right way. Unlike a lab, you cannot choose the right way.

Scanning needs to be compulsory. Simple as that. It will be, but when, I'm unsure.

Wellington also showed the massive fundamental flaw with our privacy based app model. Unlike Australia where the details of people who visit a location are known to contact tracers so they can then contact you, here in NZ that's not the case. All we can do is send out an app notification to people and in the words of the MoH "They then self-assess whether they or anyone they know has symptoms, and get in touch with Healthline if they do."

With zero ability to actually contact people directly who are identified as contacts via Bluetooth or because they've been to a location of interest, we're already on the back foot when it comes to quickly isolating people.

I agree, but if I was at a location of interest, would I not get an alert from the app to check symptoms and get tested, and off course, be aware of that location from now on? And if I was shopping, would I get an alert that I am near XYZ shop, a location of interest? Just asking.

Some idiot gets the alert. Ignores the alert. Life continues.

Reckon this story is going to play out all over the country. Things are already tight and we know it’s getting tighter.

I really feel sorry for people overseas who can’t get home, and what I say next will not help that, but I’m not sure we should be expanding MIQ at this time. Every arrival into MIQ is an opportunity for the virus to enter our country and we are in such a good, but precarious, position I just don’t think it’s worth the risk.

fines will do nothing , much like speeding fines .  certain people still speed and certain people will not stay home no matter what you do.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Just fixing the broken MIQ booking system would be a really good place to start. That would take the pressure off needing more facilities.

From what I've read their lockdown wasn't anywhere near as locked down as ours have been. No wonder the outbreak has continued to fester.

Correct. Hence my 'thought'. Misconception among 'the people' for being 'tough' despite how soft it is vs what's needed to stop transmission.

About 4 weeks beyond making a difference already if it wasn't so namby pamby. The clock of effectiveness has all but run out. And their road ahead will be at the mercy of morons not notice science/common sense

It really wouldn't take the pressure off. It would make things more fair but pressure on the facilities will only build the longer they are required. People needing to return are already being displaced by economic demands and this demand is getting greater.

I agree it won't remove a lot of the pressure, but making it fair and managing the cohort system better to minimise the wasted spaces would make more efficient use of the available capacity.

The best option from a longer term perspective is dedicated MOQ facilities IMO. In hind site perhaps they should have been built from day one, hard to say for sure. The only advantages I see with the current up is the accommodation was ready to go from day one and it provides a meaningful income for the operator.

NSW to enter statewide lockdown.

I've spoken with two mates in Sydney this weekend and it sounds grim over there and no end in sight. They just don't seem to get it, one said its super busy down the beach and skate park!

They're talking about lockdowns till Xmas, because people can't simply stay home.
