When there was the traffic cops all they did was try to fine people for driving unsafely. Since they were merged into the police, traffic enforcement has become part of the general triage. People drive slower than they used to because of speed cameras but when was the last time you saw a police car parked and waiting for people to run a stop sign like the traffic safety patrol used to do? Outside of a motorway and highway there is almost no chance of someone being fined for bad driving unless they're speeding past a speed camera.

There are plenty of cops around mid day out in West Auckland. But after 4:30PM, there are none to be seen!

Its the ones you don't see that catch the humpties . Also the traffic surveillance cams give the police a lot more eyes and enables them to target their presence.

The biggest issue I have is the leftlane huggers on the motorway. Onewa road onramp gets its own lane, rather than being a merge one, and there will usually be someone in the next lane over doing under the speed limit that just has to pull into the left lane as soon as it appears, never mind that there are busses merging in from the bus lane at about the same place. Usually one of those crappy little hatchback cars like a march or a vitz with someone with no idea what they are doing.

Anyway, they pull into the left lane without really looking, then when it gets to fanshawe street and the cook/wellersly/northwestern offramp they ignore all the warnings of "exit only" in big massive yellow which means the same in any language anywhere in the world prettymuch, and come trundling over 2 lanes of traffic well over the point where the line between the lanes becomes solid meaning you should have already moved over.

Combining what people are saying about the people who speed up at the passing lanes and police ... if you go through dome valley (80km/h limit) there are about 2 passing areas and usually every day that is where the police or the camera car will camp out. So you get are behind someone going 70 on the straights and slowing to 45 on corners and you get to the passing lane and you have no opportunity to pass neatly because of the police/camera cars are there and it's not possible to creep past in the length of road :-(

Also annoying when police cars park up on the main highways into Auckland ... all they do is cause people to panic brake (cause they think the police will pounce on everyone doing even 0.5 over 100!!!) causing massive tailbacks.

2 incidents today, first was a muppet not indicating on a right turn on a roundabout with me going straight ahead so I cut him off thinking he was going straight. Too hard to see in the video as the headlights dazzled the dashcam.

Second guy ran a red, as pictured....

The public's knowledge regarding indicating around round-a-bouts is very much lacking. I think advanced driving courses should be compulsory after so many hours/years of driving, to keep people fresh.

Yep, cutting corners is a classic. A guy the other month cut a corner because it allowed him turn into a side ride in front of an oncoming vehicle -- if he'd not cut the corner he'd have had to wait for the oncoming vehicle to clear--- it was that close.

I'm not convinced a driving course would help. Everyone knows you have to signal right at a roundabout -- i think it is laziness and a lack of enforcement that is the issue. Since I've been living at the mount (10 years now) I can only recall cops sitting outside the main offending roundabouts maybe twice -- and in marked cars so what is the point?

I think those are two different beasts - as discussed earlier in this thread, clearly most people don't know the rules re signalling at roundabouts, especially in regards to the "signalling off" rule - but this part is often more confusion than anything else (hence those who signal right even if going straight!); I'm sure most know in the back of their minds that the law is to always indicate to show one's intentions at intersections (including leaving driveways etc), but they just can't be arsed (as opposed to being confused).
