Wouldn't it be quicker and less labour intensive just to change down a gear or two?
My car has no gears
Ok. I'll be that person...Why?
If you are into drag racing on a Friday night (aka 'car enthusiast') then fill ya boots, as long as aren't being as ass or hurting anyone. But for the average pundit, I don't get why this is an issue or why it is necessary to modify your car, or somehow come up with questionable techniques to trick your cars computer just to get an extra 0.3 seconds faster off the lights. It makes no sense to me - maybe I am just getting old.
Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

What does installing one of these, or similar, do to warranties?
hsvhel:
You'll have a deifferent vehicle with it installed, find what setting works best for you, i mainly leave it on auto. But do give U9 a punch and let me know how you find it.
is it a DIY install?
MikeAqua:
A lot of modern vehicles have electronic accelerator sensors and supress accelerator response to improve fuel economy.
"That's quite enough acceleration for you, young man"
Sports mode or similar will reduce the degree of suppression.
I've found that revving the engine briefly a couple of times before accelerating, dramatically improves accelerator response. Even in a vehicle set to sports mode, it makes a noticeable difference.
It's called Fly By Wire throttle control and is implemented in all modern vehicles. Depressing the accelerator simply sends a request for more power to the EMC.
Sports Mode in my BMW 530i changes the shift points of the 5 Speed steptronic, it doesn't affect the engine.
I guess CPU response time plays a part in acceleration lag?

Nothing, mine was factory fitted by the dealer. went with a reputable brand for that reason, sure there are others out there, un-sure if they would present a problem

100%, it goes in series between the connection to the pedal and the harness. About 5mins to connect and then you can either hide the module or cable manage it elsewhere. I left mine as set and forget behind the fuse access panel. Can get to it if require for changes but have found its not needed.
Discalimer, i am in no way affiliated with the brand. Just a customer

Batman: Any way of knowing how it works?
I don't want to have the car stuck at full throttle when it malfunctions
Interesting take on it.
Youtube, there's dyno comparisons and all sorts.
It would be an odd malfunction to have though, and one that could conceivably happen to the vehicle on its own, without something like this. Both have a very low chance of that happening i would think.
In either case, vehicle or vehicle with something like this...there's always neutral?

That probably just spools up the turbo. Is that with your Mitsu ute?
i watched this - it says no difference than pressing the pedal further down. guess I'll pass on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs3ZXP6wjBE

The deadspot though is removed, if in AKL, welcome to drive my ute and see the change, no power gain at all, but a pedal that does what its asked to do.

Yep, that's pretty well what I've found out by doing a bit of searching.
Comments like "It has a placebo effect" and "Its just the same as flooring your throttle". Seems to me a more aggressive use of the throttle will have the same effect and you can use the money you would have spent on the throttle controller on something else.
My Drive By Wire 235 KW V6 with a 9 speed auto goes pretty damn well. About the only time I seem to catch it out is when it has dropped back into 4 cylinder mode when sometimes there may a short hesitate off a low throttle setting.
Someone mentioned turning off traction control. That might work on some vehicles but on others the traction control stops wheel spin and enhances traction giving better acceleration.

I'm surprised you could fit one of these and not invalidate your warranty.
