Resurrected this post as I found this very helpful, so thank you to all who posted. But I also had some details around my experience with this I wanted to share.

I was replacing the factory head unit in my imported 2011 LY3P MPV. Went with a JVC KW-M750BT, mainly for it having CarPlay, and ability to take 2 cameras (kind of, more on that later). We got everything working on the first attempt other than the camera's.

After finding this thread we went hunting for the white plugs behind the glovebox, my car didn't have them. What we ended up doing is bench testing the old head unit with the camera's wired up to work out the wiring, and bought one of these to power both of them (https://www.jaycar.co.nz/dc-to-dc-step-down-voltage-converter-module/p/AA0236?pos=9&queryId=425f813ca9ecdcb31c8917140672d344&sort=relevance). We matched the voltage (6.2 from memory) and wired it in to the car accessory,  and the camera's ground to this units ground and the camera's red wire to positive. The camera's are powered all the time the car is on (but were normally anyway). It works well, has been a month or so now, no issues.

In hindsight we didn't quite get the head unit model right. To get the second (front facing in passenter side mirror) camera to work we had to wire it in as an external video source (normally DVD or such). It works, but is a bit of a pain as you have to select that as an input. I've since found out that other JVC models can handle two or three camera's, and they can be set up to do things like when you move from reverse to drive show the front facing camera automatically for a few seconds. I did enquire about doing a swap with the supplier, but it basically came down to no suitable models available in the country at the moment, covid strikes again!

Considering what we had before (working camera's but head unit in Japanese with minimal usable features) I'm overall happy with the outcome.

I went through this with a Mazda CX5 a year ago, picked up a Sony double din head unit (think it's a XAVAX3000] and had a spectacular time getting it to work with the factory Bose sound system and steering wheel controls.

From memory I had to remove one of the wire harnesses and hard wire a number of wires including the correct trigger wire to make sure the rear camera automatically activated on reverse. The curb/side camera actives with the dedicated button on the dash. I picked up a step down converter from Jaycar but they don't appear to stock it anymore, but I'm sure the current one would work just as well.

All worked great in the end, but wish I had bought a unit that has a better screen as mine gets washed by sunlight making it nearly useless in the day.

JVC KW-M960BT was the head unit I saw. Specs say 3 camera inputs, I didn't look too much in to it as I had already purchased a different model.

Re resurrecting this thread as I think it's really useful but needs more info.

I'm in the process of installing aftermarket head unit and had an absolute nightmare with this as I couldn't find wiring scheme for the factory stereo and so had to use trial and error to work out.

You don't perhaps remember the wiring colours for the cameras do you? I seem to have a lot of wires going into the factory head unit and the three camera wires I have identified are all different, having 5 wires, 4 wires and 3 wires which doesn't make sense to me as cameras presumable need 4, Video +, Video -, Pwr+ Gnd?

I'm going to provide a detailed wiring post separately with what I've identified so far and will update as I progress.

I'm in the process of installing aftermarket head unit and had an absolute nightmare with this as I couldn't find wiring scheme for the factory stereo and so had to use multimeter and trial and error to work out.

My head unit was a Panasonic CN-HW880DF and I can find no information on this head unit online at all apart from some advertised for sale.

It integrates with the car extensively, including connecting to TV UHF aerial, Aircon/clock dash, 3x cameras, parking sensors, steering wheel controls, navi, ETC and alarm.

Thus far I have connected up the main audio and power wiring and steering wheel controls but have yet to figure out the cameras as they have odd wiring.

I have included some pics of the connectors so will hopefully help other users.

The main head unit connector is a 10-pin connector (8 used) with the following colour code:

Colours are given as primary colour followed by stripe colour if any.

+12V = Blue Brown
ACC = Pink Blue
Illumination = Red Black
Spk Left +ve = Blue Orange
Spk Left -ve = Purple
Spk Right +ve = Grey Blue
Spk Right -ve = Yellow Green
Ground = Black

Rear speakers are on separate 4-pin connector and are coloured:

Spk Left Rear +ve = Green
Spk Left Rear -ve = Green Black
Spk Right Rear +ve = Yellow
Spk Left Rear -ve = Yellow Black

A 20 pin connector includes steering wheel controls and some of the camera connections.

Steering Wheel controls are on this connector and are:

Ground = White Red
Main button set = Grey Black - these provide different resistances indicating button pressed.
Phone Button = Green Red - this is just a switch.
All cameras worked when this connector was in the factory head unit so must include all the camera wires.

There is a Green 5 Pin Plug

Fat black = ACC
Black = ?
Sheathed wire set with
White = ?
Red = ?
Black wire formed from coax sheath = reverse indicator signal (grounds when shifting into reverse).

I had presumed this was all the rear camera connector (as rear cam would only work when connected) but when I connected this up to new head unit it didn't work so now think this was probably just needed to trigger the reverse camera. This connector possibly includes steering wheel angle and speed sensors?

Yellow 10 pin connector = UHF TV and TV/Navi switch buttons so not used.

Large flat 24 pin connector:

There was a video out RCA plug connected via red and black wires on this connector.
Rest are unknown but many wires have constant voltage, 1x 3V, 2x 2V, 2x 1.8V Maybe alarm and parking sensors??

CAMERAS

Now the cameras are confusing. Each set of camera wires appear to be sheathed in a larger white sheath, one of these white sheaths has a green stripe on it. There is a similar white sheathed set on the 24 pin connector but can't be for camera so not sure what that one's for.

I have traced the white sheathed one without stripe to the left hand side mirror camera (i think). This has black ground wire with green blue wires (presumably +- video).

The other white sheathed - green stripe wire set has 6 wires

White
Yellow
Black
Green
Red
Black Ground

Given it's in the one sheath doesn't that mean it must be only one camera? Unless it connects to a switch somewhere?

Rear camera has green striped sheath coming from it.

I'll keep working on this but if anyone has any insights that would be great.

I saw these guys at the top gear live show several years ago.  The had a sign saying something like "wife-proof your wheels" (seriously) and were (understandably) getting quite bit of side eye from the females present.  I bought a set in grey.  They were really good for teaching the kids to drive.

Just remember some of those cameras are 6V (passenger mirror camera from memory) and needed a step down transformer to power when moving to a different head unit.

Ok, having spent far too much time pulling panels off to trace wires I've made some progress.

The cameras are all wired into a parking assist system box behind the glove box. Picture below.

There are three plugs in the back of this box.

The wing mirror camera is wired into one of these plugs - 4 wires, GND = black, +6V = white, Video+ = white redstripe and V- white blackstripe.

The center plug includes the rear and front cameras as well as a bunch of wires that went to the old head unit.

Rear camera has 4 wires, GND = black, +6V = white, Video+ = white redstripe and V- white bluestripe

Front camera has 4 wires, GND = black, Blue = +6V, Video+ = Blue redstripe and V- Blue whitestripe

The third plug has wires that connected to the factory head unit.

I am waiting on a 4-way camera switch box and will then wire them all up to the box and on to the new head unit.

Good on your for persevering, I did eventually give up and take it to a professional installer (who also had a whale of a time) and didn't get it all working - I finished it off per my post above, but they managed to remove feet of wiring harness that wasn't needed!

One of the most maddening experiences you can possibly have as you're not sure whether you're dealing with factory wiring or something someone has nearly had a go at getting it to work with the previous unit.

yeah mine came half working after a previous installer had had a crack at replacing the factory head unit.
They couldn't get the side camera to work, or the rear for that matter.
Horrible working with a mess of standard and butchered / introduced cabling etc.

100%

I actually made a typo, I meant to write 'neatly' as the aftermarket wiring that was done to join it in with the Japanese ETC Toll road thing was so good I thought it was like that from the factory. Master workmanship.

That's the part that I couldn't figure out that the pro did.

There is popular GPS enabled cheap headunit with BT, but without Android or Carplay.
From memory ADAIO or something like that. That one has inputs for two video cameras - e.g. Front and reverse.
Funny thing that 3 installers of those whom I saw in action at car dealer's yards had absolutely no clue about pinouts for second camera.
I bought one of those units from one of them just for reverse camera (and installed myself) and at another dealership found a huge pile of pigtails in the dumpster, which appeared to be the plugs with RCA inputs for second camera for those headunits.
Do not need those. Free to pick up in Greenlane, Auckland. Won't post.
