I ordered a brother sewing machine 2 weeks ago when it was on special. After two weeks Warehouse came back today saying "

"Unfortunately we have had to cancel your order for this sewing machine as sales far exceeded stock. We have been trying to source further stocks but unfortunately have not been able to which has resulted in the delay advising you."

The funny thing is:Its still available online @ full price and showing in stock, tried adding to cart etc up to paying by credit card and no errors.

Does it sound like a scam?

I think when this happens with WS it's more a case of their online inventory system being broken.  My guess would be that they had a certain amount of stock through the supplier that was at a discounted price, and they over-sold.

I actually placed an order for one of these, and ended up calling WS to make sure the order was being processed (it sat on a 'processing' state for a week).  They were quite apologetic and said they'd keep me up to date, which they did, and the machine arrived today.  I mention this only because of the massive difference in quality of service to other similar retailers (I'm look at you, HN) who won't even accept DOA returns in-store, "because the web guys finished at 4pm today".

Edit: oh, forgot to mention - the WS guy said they'd sold over 50 of these, which is why they had fulfillment issues.
