Same on Facebook Market place :P
I've recently closed down my FB account, but even prior to that I still chose to list on TM on these 'fees-free' days than deal with the grubby cesspools that are FB sales groups.
Last week I got a "list an item and get $5 credit", which did indeed entice me to list some stuff; and I've put a couple of items on today with the nil fees.
That said, it's only with enticements like these, which minimise or cancel any success fees, that I'll bother using TM - which can't help their bottom line!
IMO, TradeMe need to move to being fee-free, and start focusing on revenue generation through Ping and advertising packages (eg. gallery listing, promoted listing etc).
Ping is the money spinner for sure. Success fees are outdated. I have no qualms AT ALL paying them 1.9% of the total transaction value if they handle the payment processing with the Credit Card companies. It also significantly increases the chances of someone buying something.

What is the criteria for being offered 'free fees'.. anyone have any idea?
(We certainly never have, thats for certain).

Cheers PhantomNVD,
Pretty certain it's more than once or twice a year, afaik at least 4 times in the last 12 mths they've done this... seems to be in the weekends... we've never received the email's detailing the offer so cannot say how well/poorly the offer is advertised... really p!sses me off... the result is loads of hurried & crap listings with little/no beta, often no images and of course the heavy unwanted bombing of ones 'email saved searches'.
What p!sses me off the most is that the sellers taking no doubt very joyous advantage of this offer, seem to rarely 'pass the 10% saving on' via a reserve reduced by the 10%, they just reload their existing listing 'as is'.
If we ever got that 'zero success fee' offer we'd certainly knock the $150 success fee off of my listing in an effort to make it more saleable.
Regardless, my actual question is: 'What is the criteria for being offered 'free fees'.. anyone have any idea?'

They seem to pick random days, once or twice a year in my experience, but with zero notice and almost zero advertising so have minimal uptake (I’d think) too.
Sorta like Briscoes Sales... some people now wait till one of these few free days pitch up to go mad with their listings and give TM a (temporary) boost?
Hmm, so I just called and spoke to my friend who is running a listing (see screen grab beneath) for a tent in the tramping section, he received email notice about yesterdays 'Free Commission' for listings so threw it & others up - but has no idea why he gets the offers sent to him?
He is a much smaller user than we are, uses the same sections on the site, he has probably created maybe 1-2% of the success fee's we have at a guess.
Does anyone know:

My email history shows that the free selling promotion was run on:
20 Oct 2018 - Free Selling in General Items
09 March 2019 - Free Selling in General Items
5-7 April 2019 - Free Selling in Antiques & Collectables
04 May - Free Selling in General Items
08 June - Free Selling in $1 Reserve
Some selling restrictions applied to the various promotions
If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.
Geese: I don't get any direct notifications, but the pay no success fees is on offer to everyone, on the day they run the promotions.
The most common way to find out its on is to use the TM app, and there will be a notification dot which explains the offer is on that day, plus where it has listing button there is a countdown timer. I've also seen it advertised on stuff or metservice, or wherever there are Google ads. Also just Google searching on the day will take you to TM's page explaining the T and C.
So it is available to everyone, they don't just select random people like your suggesting, is just that they don't actively let people know (or at least for me and the few around me).
This last one was only on $1 reserve listings. I could have ended any of my listings to take advantage of this, but decided it was too risky as I'm rural
Geese, if the 'no success fees is on offer to everyone' why then when I tried to load a listing on Saturday did it not tell me it was going to be a 'no success fees'' listing which would have meant I could reduce the asking price by $150?
cshaun, thats right, on Saturday my friend could list that tent for 'no success fees' yet I could not list similarly.
Does anyone know what it takes to get offered no success fees listings?

I've seen people post that they have free listings (with screen grabs) yet I don't see the same.

Are you a frequent or even semi-frequent seller on TM?
I've had numerous offers for the no fees listings, and had assumed it was because I hardly ever list stuff, and this was their way to entice me back and hope I'd start selling in other times. It's not worked in my case, in that I just wait for the next success-free offer to come up.
