Chinese DeepSeek was too busy to allow me to register/ask same question how many January 6 insurrectionists did Trump pardon?

Since DeepSeek is trained on ChatGPT, its response would be interesting.

(ChatGPT is claiming its IP has been stolen, also stole a lot of IP from many source, without asking permission. What goes around, comes around.)

sir1963: Trump raises his ugly head again   Live: Russian skaters among the dead in US plane crash; Trump blames ‘diversity push’

Yes, the plane crash happened because not enough white people. On RNZ this morning they quoted him as saying that the FAA had a policy of hiring people with severe intellectual and psychological deficiencies. Perhaps Don could get a job at the FAA when he's finished being president.

And in Leopards Eating People's Faces Party news, man votes for candidate who promises to deport brown people, cries when wife who is not a citizen, is deported back to Venezuela.

In the 2024 election, Trump made significant gains among Hispanic voters. Many Hispanic voters are active in Christianity, politically conservative. They also prioritized issues like the cost of living.

While precise numbers are unavailable, a considerable segment of the Venezuelan American community supported Trump in the 2024 election.

Trump ends extension of temporary protected status for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan migrants: NPR

The Trump administration is revoking a Biden-era extension for Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, for Venezuelans, a move that removes the work authorization for hundreds of thousands of immigrants and makes them eligible for deportation.

Kristi Noem, the new secretary of homeland security, announced the decision to end the 18-month extension of TPS for Venezuelans that Biden implemented days before he left the White House. "The people of this country want these dirtbags out," she said on Fox and Friends. "They want their communities to be safe."

Venezuelans in South Florida react to latest on "Temporary protected status ", TPS

CBS Miami

Approximately 600,000 Venezuelans in the U.S. are at risk of being deported.

I watched the press conference this morning.

He said something along the lines of "This was the fault of Obama and Biden after him. Their administrations created this situation, with their DEI policies. People with intellectual disabilites, Transgenders, etc".

He made some wild statements and never once looked like he cared about the victims.

His re-election is after the knowledge cutoff in September 2024. You need to prompt it to recheck so that it searches the web and finds updated information.

Timothy Shriver, chairman of the board for the Special Olympics, a sports organization for people with disabilities, said on Instagram that “to our knowledge, no persons with profound intellectual disabilities are employed as air traffic controllers in the U.S. or elsewhere.”

By Trump's logic, previous presidents were at fault. Wasn't Trump president before, so isn't it his fault too (whatever "it" is)?

Or were those previous four years only taken up by golfing, instead of being "fixing" the FAA's recruitment?

I had no idea.

I asked ChatGPT "does chatgpt have a knowledge cutoff from September 2024?"

It answered "No, my knowledge was last updated in June 2024. However, I can fetch up-to-date information from the web if you need anything beyond that!"

I've never heard of the acronym DEI described in this way, but for the orange buffoon's old mate Peter Hegseth, this seems quite fitting:

I think Trump still mad that a condom broke and Eric was born.

Is the US sending $50m in condoms to Gaza as Trump claims?: Aljazeera
...
Trump: “We identified and stopped $50m being sent to Gaza to buy condoms for Hamas,” Trump said on Wednesday. “They used them as a method of making bombs. How about that?”
...
Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, made a similar claim on Tuesday during her debut news briefing.
...

Jesse Watters, host of a conservative-leaning talk show on Fox News, said Hamas was using the nonexistent US shipments to make “condom bombs”, floating explosives-laden balloons into Israel. Did he share any evidence to back up that bomb-astic claim? No.
...
Trump has justified its suspension of nearly all foreign aid by highlighting examples of “egregious funding”, such as contraception and reproductive healthcare programmes.
,,,
Soon after returning to office for a second term on January 20, Trump ordered a 90-day freeze on foreign assistance to make sure that the aid conforms with the policies of his administration, which opposes abortion, transgender rights and diversity programmes.
...
Refugees International President Jeremy Konyndyk ... refuted Trump’s and Leavitt’s claims as unrealistic.

“USAID procures condoms for around $0.05 apiece,” he wrote on Wednesday on X. “$50m would be ONE BILLION condoms. What’s going on here is NOT a billion condoms for Gaza. What’s going on is that the bros at DOGE apparently can’t read govt spreadsheets.”

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jan/30/trump-low-approval-rating

No surprises here - yes his base loves him but not many others...and I think as his term wears on and people realise he can't do even half of the crap he said he would (cheaper eggs? getting rid of "vermin" immigrants without gutting the economy?) I can see his approval getting lower and lower.

Hell I thought Bush was bad...from memory he left office with the lowest approval ever, but stand him next to the orange buffoon and it's almost like the former is a gentleman!

https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2025/01/31/trump-defy-constitution-third-term-00200239

If Trump decided he wanted to hold onto power past 2028, there are at least four paths he could try:

  • He could generate a movement to repeal the 22nd Amendment directly.
  • He could exploit a little-noticed loophole in the amendment that might allow him to run for vice president and then immediately ascend back to the presidency.
  • He could run for president again on the bet that a pliant Supreme Court won’t stop him.
  • Or he could simply refuse to leave — and put a formal end to America’s democratic experiment.

I sometimes wish they didn't run articles like these - even though they're interesting, they might give him ideas! 😨

And finally (okay I'll shut up for a bit after this) some of this week's political cartoons:

^ (note that I had never heard RFK speak before his confirmation yesterday - I thought his speech sounded quite stumbling and halting, reminded me a little of Biden at the debate, although that could have just been nerves)

Another take on the orange buffoon's new press secretary:

And finally, a look at Trump's (appalling, weak and inappropriate) response to the tragic air disaster near Washington DC:

The Guardian - Capitulating to Trump: why people are warning about ‘Vichy’ America

31 Jan 2025

As Trump creates unprecedented chaos, Democrats have offered little more than platitudes – sparking comparisons to France’s collaborationist second world war regime.

At the dawn of the second Trump presidency, defiance has given way to compliance.

While Donald Trump has rapidly and ruthlessly thrown the federal government into unprecedented chaos, the leaders of the Democratic party have offered up little more than limp banalities and platitudes.  ...

Asked who was leading the caucus’s pushback, the Senate minority whip, Dick Durbin, replied: “I can’t answer that. Give us a little time.” Another senator said, “We’re obviously in a bit of disarray,” though Senate Democrats have arrayed themselves enough to provide bipartisan support for a number of Trump’s cabinet appointees.

For the leftists and liberals who had hoped to see the opposition party mount some kind of opposition to Trumpism, this spectacle of capitulation has inspired a new historical analogy, or at least a new insult.

La Résistance is dead. Welcome to Vichy France.

And I see Trumps tariffs against Canada, Mexico, and China start this weekend.

This is just business as usual for Trump.... bullying, threatening, black mailing, etc etc etc as part of his "art of the deal".

The ONLY thing that will stop him is countries saying NO, force him to back down, otherwise like all bullies he will be back tomorrow for your lunch money.

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/01/31/politics/trump-tariffs-mexico-canada-china/index.html

Placing significant tariffs on the United States’ biggest trading partners serves as a gamble that taxing American companies for imported goods will ultimately punish the countries that make stuff Americans want — and bring those nations to the negotiating table. But it’s a risky bet that could easily backfire on American consumers and the economy.

There could be some temporary, short-term disruption, and people will understand that,” Trump said when pressed by reporters on the cost of tariffs being passed on to consumers.

I think he can count himself very lucky at the moment - if there was an election tomorrow he would probably be thinking very differently...certainly voters wouldn't be so "understand[ing]" as he thinks they would be.
