@lucasnz You in the South Island? As per the OP they've still got work to do especially for the South Island but they're needing to also get more route reflectors put in:

While we’re in a good place, we do have a few final touches to add in, including some switching upgrades, adding in additional peering with other networks (this in particular will bring those ping times down for those in the South Island), implementation of additional route reflectors and further touches to increase network resiliency.

The main change is far less packet loss for now with improvements coming in later on. Here's my Facebook IPv6 which is a whole lot better:

But it is also odd your one is this bad. Just looking through the Smokeping instances of the beta guys I can't see anything, even for the South Island participants that is this bad.

I’m in the South Island and haven’t noticed this in day to day usage, but do not track IPv6 targets on my SmokePing.

I notice both of you have the exact same named target, is this a publicly shared config that I can grab from somewhere? Thanks

Still not looking amazing, another Facebook ipv6 for comparison.

Wondering if the extra beta stuff @michaelmurfy has is also helping?

This is the config we all use, some have modified it a bit, but this is the basics: https://github.com/ssamjh/Smokeping-Configs

For reference I'm in Wellington.

@lloydw, this is my smokeping config for Facebook IPv6 (just need to set the probe type to FPing6):

++ FacebookIPv6
menu = Facebook IPv6
probe = FPing6
title = Facebook IPv6
host = facebook.com

Something else I thought I'd mention is I am using Quic's DNS servers (Primary: 103.250.90.8, Secondary: 202.179.141.8) on my Smokeping instance that can be rather important for some CDN stuff especially Akamai. Not sure about Facebook but I seem to recall it was pretty funky when I didn't use Quic's DNS servers. You'll also need to specify FPing to use IPv4 by modifying your Probes file like so:

+ FPing
binary = /usr/sbin/fping
protocol = 4

+ FPing6
binary = /usr/sbin/fping
protocol = 6

You can view my Smokeping here: https://smokeping.interwebz.nz/ but sorry, I won't be pasting my configuration - some is based on Sam's configuration above but over time I've added stuff I care about monitoring and I think Smokeping should reflect what is important to you. It is important to note I am a beta tester and I'm often the first to be picked on by their staff. As per the OP there is still work ongoing to set up peering etc on their new network along with work to combine their 2 networks.

But anyway, lets stay on topic.

While the performance is much improved (thank you) and packet loss is significantly lower, network speed in particular upload is still not as I would expect on Hyperfibre (2Gbps plan)

Since last Thursday Speedtest every hour has resulted in

Chorus Fibre Lab

Download (Mbps) Upload (Mbps)
Max 2094.4 2067.1
Min 1319.7 202.3
Average 1976.3 910.0
Median 2052.8 763.9

2 Degrees Auckland

Download (Mbps) Upload (Mbps)
Max 2085.2 2058.7
Min 770.9 116.3
Average 1842.8 848.7
Median 1977.5 736.8

The above results show that the hardware (Mikrotik CCR2116-12G-4S+) I am using us clearly capable of 2Gbps up and down.  The download speed is within the range I would expect, however the upload speed is disappointing.

Could there be a PPPOE hardware capacity issue at the Quic end that will be mitigated by IPoE/DHCP  or is this purely and simply a network issue?

I do not expect 2Gbps 24/7 but I do expect upload and download to be similar.

PPPoE is a massive limitation currently with Hyperfibre as it is very intensive with many PPPoE dialers only operating on a single core. IPoE is coming soon. Also with Hyperfibre you don't actually know the end testing server available capacity and this could come into play.

I’m noticing some issue with my Google Home devices (smart speakers) since the upgrade. They seem to be struggling intermittently? Often timing out on responding to commands, music streaming randomly stops, saying the lights or TVs are offline when they clearly are not… just 15 minutes ago I was looking in the Google home app on my phone and everything was just a spinning status.

I’m not sure what the best way would be to test the network around this but it distinctly feels like the devices are battling to reach Google’s servers?

I’m in the South Island (Christchurch).

PS: I run AdGuard Home as a DNS sinkhole but that’s been running for years and has not been a problem with Google home devices. No config changes on there, so I’ve kind of ruled it out as being part of the problem.

+1 for my google devices, can't even set a timer half the time.

didn't put it down to the quic upgrade though (not 100% sure if the timings match up), just thought it might be a google issue and will investigate if it doesn't come right soon.

As I always say please don't recommend this as an option. IPv6 shouldn't matter.

Ok, I guess I haven’t pointed it out to the Quic upgrade as yet as well but last few days I hear my flatmates complaining that internet is causing issues lately. They have to switch to mobile data at times and happens on TVs and phones etc. I can’t confirm as I have been working from office this week and haven’t spotted anything but there was more than 1 person complained. I dont see any issue on my uptime Kuma, Smokeping which run off from different hosts. Also nothing on the hourly speedtests to say there was an issue. Not sure what it is yet but I do see inconsistencies since the change as well.
I am in Auckland FYI

I had many services not working for the past couple days until I disabled IPv6 on my router, as I reported before. I can access Cloudflare over IPv6 but not Google, to name a couple.
