@lucasnz: The setting is trivial, so I struggle to see how my config is wrong, can't help but feel it's a teething problem with DHCP.
Any ideas?

If it is still PPPoE Relay (from memory) this could mean Chorus have not applied the necessary configuration change to your connection that makes IPoE work. I think on other LFC's like Enable and Northpower it should just work without a problem. If you're also not seeing the portal bring up a DHCP session after dropping PPPoE then there is a problem somewhere either on your end, or with Chorus.

mine says

Circuit ID Insertion PPPoE Relay but dhcp works fine. im on a chorous area :)

cods4: Went very smoothly for me on pfsense.
Changed the drop down box on my wan interface from pppoe to dhcp, ok, apply. Done!
Internet was only out for a few seconds. No one even noticed.

My site to site VPN didn't come back up until after a router reboot. But otherwise, no issues.

Still not getting more then 900M/900M on the 2G plan, so I will raise a ticket about that sometime next week. But that's another matter.

what network card are you using? and also try on ubuntu i have issues on windows showing very slow speeds for some reason ..

A quic and easy change with OpenWRT, just had to change authentication method to DHCP for WAN and then set WAN6 not to use the older VLAN10 connection.

Don't notice any obvious performance difference, the NanoPi R4S is probably overpowered for gigabit PPPoE anyway.

Would there be any need to use a different MTU going from PPPoE to DHCP?  I'm on OpenWRT, vlan tagged. I could never quite figure out if the vlan tagging would influence choice of MTU?

Sounds like to me your network card is negotiating at Gigabit. I believe there is a fault with some chipsets on PFSense for example the Intel X550-T2 which only has NBASE-T Support in Linux (meaning 2.5/5/10Gbit speeds) and the FreeBSD kernel on PFSense doesn't work with this.

I've heard some people having better luck with OPNSense and this could perhaps be a go for you but fully thinking the problem is with your build.

This problem also extends out to Windows with some network chipsets as @aj6828 has stated. Some chipsets are literally Linux only for some reason :)

Simple - 1500 will be your MTU on your VLAN DHCP interface.

Urgh... OpenWRTs new(ish) way of separating "Devices" and "Interfaces" is still messing with me. Set the MTU to 1500 on the wan device, wan.10 automatically follows suit, but the eth0 device (which represents the physical wan port) automatically adds an extra 8!

I kind of have to assume that's fine and dandy since OpenWRT is defaulting it. Wish I could understand why though!

yep can't win always....  my new wifi7 card doesn't support AMD CPUS its intel only and Windows

and windows 11 has a slow network bug which they admit they cant fix..

so im using ubuntu for my download needs which i get the full speeds at ssd read-write rates

as above i also have issues with PFSense not identifying my 2.5g network card the beta version works fine though

I went through a fairly thorough diagnosis in this thread and am fairly confident it wasn't on my end.

https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=194&topicid=311091

The NIC in my R86S-n305 pfsense box is a ConnectX-3 dual 10Gb SFP+ I believe.
I've also tried connecting directly from my PC which has an Intel x540 10GbE card.

I also still have the Quic portal reporting the Circuit ID Insertion as PPPoE Relay but my Mikrotik and DHCP are working just fine.

I did not restart my ONT at changeover.  I just disabled PPoE and enabled DHCP on the router, changed some firewall rules and queues that were referencing the old PPoE interface.

Cheers.

Just slightly correcting this - doesn't matter whether your connection shows "PPPoE Relay" or "DHCP Option 82", you have both applied. 🙂

This pulls directly from Chorus' systems which haven't been 100% updated everywhere just yet. should be tidied up in the next couple of months once Chorus completes some backend changes.

Great to see the high uptake of DHCP/IPoE, we're loving seeing numbers on our dashboard grow! 📈

Is it worth maintaining a list of known problematic routers?

Eero 6 and I assume 6+, USG?

The fix being disabled DHCP in the portal right and stick to PPoE.

Lastly. It's a given but ensure you haven't inadvertently disabled DHCP in the Quic portal :)

Plenty of people including Beta Testers using either PFSense and OPNSense also.

Thanks for the response, I have not disabled DHCP in the portal, and the Circuit ID shows PPPoE Relay but @quic say that doesn't matter. I'm using pfsense, and as other have mentioned, the config is simply to change from from PPPoE (current config below shows PPPoE) to DHCP. Others in this thread have mentioned the change worked for them on pfsense, and this is all that was required. So I'll wager it's not my config. I have a few old routers floating around, I might try plugging one in tonight, to eliminate any dodgy config on the pfsense...

Everything "just worked" - even during the beta period, IPv4 & IPv6. Huge gains. Lovin in.

Quic change over this morning.

EdgeRouter Lite, deleted PPPoE interface, and changed the VLAN interface to DHCP, got address within a few seconds.

Then changing firewall rules over to correct interface, and changing NAT and in business.

Is there any way to remove the VLAN 10 tagging on the WAN interface? Not for any performance benefit but just to make things simpler haha.
