Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions team...

It seems to be running really well using the 5Ghz wifi connection on the TV now, (way better than the wired one, so I suspect it may be 10/100 rather than gig), and Direct Play.

Have you checked the connection speed reported by the router or switch when using a wired connection? Have you tried a different cable in case the one in use was malfunctioning?

10/100 should still play fine.

It would. Unless the cable was damaged and there were other errors happening.

Thanks again.
replaced the cable from the TV to the router, and consistently tests using Speedtest, at just shy of 100/95 and googling confirms the tv has USB 2.0 ports and 10/100 Ethernet.
Wireless results test consistently in the 190-230/95 range.
Higher results connected wirelessly to the TP-Link X55 router rather than the (wired) X55 satellite right next to the TV.
I think fine-tuning the Router QOS settings and the Plex Server settings have resolved the issues, so thanks for all the support & ideas.
I’ll keep running wired (for stability reasons), and use the WiFi as a fallback should any further buffering occur, as none has now for a couple of weeks now.

Do you have QoS on?

Any specific reason? I've found that QoS implementations are pretty bad across most consumer routers.

QoS would NOT apply to LAN traffic I don't think.

I generally tend to find some of my older TV's crash with Plex sometimes now days. TVs are about 4+ years old. Plex used to work fine. But android runs quite slow sometimes.

Have been using a Xiomi TV box, its modern and quite powerful. Have had absolutely no issue.

The X55 has the ability to prioritise selected devices irrespective of whether they’re connected wirelessly or wired, so I figured it couldn’t hurt. That along with static ip addresses for the TV (wired & wireless), the NAS and the NUC.

QoS and prioritization applies to routed traffic, no routing is occurring between devices on your LAN.

Seems like TP-Link have their own version that can include acceleration of both wired & wireless clients... In my case, the TV is off, but I have the TV (wired & wireless connections), the NUC and the NAS in the same group.

As I say this DOES NOT apply to local traffic between your devices!!
