I have recently installed a HTPC and a LCD Television combo for my multimedia needs. The two are joined by a HDMI lead and all is good. The TV is turned on first then the computer. Jack sensing automatically sends sound to the HDMI cable then to the television and all is good.
My problem begins when I want to play a movie and tie in my Bose home theater system to the rest of the combo. There is no sound at the headphone jack of the computer unless I reboot and the Headphone jack on the television sends poor quality sound to the Bose. There is a digital output that is active all the time on both the television and the HTPC it is a Spidf optical out and I am told it is not subject to jack sensing as it is a one time use of digital sound and is only available at one point. It looks like a little square hole with a grey bung in it. How can I make use of this digital output and reprocess it into something that my old model Lifestyle 3 Bose system can input into its aux RCA input. Is this the right way to go or is there a better option.
Thanks in advance for your considerations.

DA converter.

Otherwise is there an output from the TV you can connect to the home theater?

What motherboard is it? Isn't there a control panel applet you can use to select the output? If it's awkward to use you could automate it with AutoHotkey or whatever.

Also, last I tried the sound was not cloned between the different outputs on the PC, it was one or the other for HDMI and optical. The only ones that would clone were the optical and analog on a really old motherboard I used.
