Just having a slight issue, sold my 2 year old SW150 to a buyer on Trademe, perfect working condition.  Rings me up a few days later saying it's rattling.

First thoughts:
- Adjust the crossover level, could be clipping
- Replace the cable
- Try it on a different amp
- Turn the volume down to an acceptable level and work you way up
- Calibrate the system


Got a text back 2 weeks later saying it's still "rattling".  So I've sent him the receipt to try get it covered under Warranty.  But they won't fix it under warranty if it's been abused.  Which I'm sort of thinking, if he's doing all the above steps, then it's probably him turning it up too loud or abusing it which broke it?

What are my rights?  I don't want any bad feedback, have a perfect account, but I also don't want to refund a working subwoofer that the buyer might have broken?

Has anyone else had similar issues with the SW150?  I can't see much online about anyone blowing them, mostly just rattling/clipping relating to bad setups...

Shipping damage? sounds like a slipped coil or something like that.

Yeah that's the other thing I was thinking, buyer picked it up and put it in his boot, so was working fine at mine, he puts it in the car, something goes wrong.

Guessing it could also possibly be the car ride might have caused one of the wires to slip onto the coil at the rear, which could explain the rattling too

Don't refund the money - lose the rating.

Pick what one matters more to you. But personally, I'd back up what I sell - it's what I expect from brick and mortar retailers, it's what I expect from on-line purchases.

Yeah definitely, it's a tough decision, since it was working fine when he picked it up

He was a relatively young guy too, so I guess inexperience probably played a part in him possibly blowing it...I guess I'll wait till he takes it into LV Martins(still under warranty)  hopefully they can tell him it's been caused by him turning it up too loud, or preferably incorrect settings on his home theatre and that it's fine

I ALWAYS make sure I show buyers that a product is working when they pick it up, may take an extra 5mins to plug in etc but well worth it.

Didn't do it once and it bit me in the ass.

Yeah when he arrived it was plugged into my amp, I showed him how it worked and gave him the manual.
Wasn't till about 2 days later that he called and said it was "rattling"

So I tried the usual:

- make sure you've got it on a carpeted surface and with no floor boards below
- try a different cable
- try adjusting your amplifier to the correct crossover point and match it with the sub point(I said 85 on both as a reference, he sent a text back saying he didn't know how to do this)
- turn the volume down to 1/4 then slowly turn it back up while adjusting it on the amplifier


He's got the receipt now, so he's going in to LVs today or tomorrow, so will hopefully have a good outcome, otherwise I might just pop over and see if he's buggered it :(

If you used it for a period of years and never had a problem with it then Id say he's buggered it. Probably had the level or gain turned way to high. I have had similar problems in the passed on trademe. Did everything I could to help the guy out. Showed him the product before he left with it and made sure he was satisfied. Ended up still getting a bad rating even though the problem was rectified.

It is a problem with online trading. And a flaw in trademe's feedback model.
