Hi guys I would like to thank you for reading my post and for your ideas, experience or expertise you are gonna share with us.

I would like to setup my HTPC freeview dedicated.
I got this software:
Windows: Media Portal, PowerDVD and Windowsxp sp3.
Linux: Kubuntu and Mythtv front and backend.
Hardware: Core 2 duo 6600
Asus sli board
2GB corsair DDR800
Nvidia 8800GTS 512 G92
X2 500GB Sata HD's
HDTV satellite pci card (for windowsxp).
Dish and universal LNB.

Could some one please share with me how they set this up.
I tried Media portal and run into trouble with software crashing while scanning sat.
I tried Mythtv and was so hard to setup I cant get it to work.

Hi

I can provide support for MediaPortal if you're able to provide some TV Server logs. Use the watchdog (AKA debug mode, link in your start menu MediaPortal folder) with option 3 to get a zip file of all your logs and system information, upload the zip file somewhere that I can access it, and then post a link here.

I tried starting the PC with Media Portal and PC does not even boot. So I install it the same setup on other PC and wtf it seemed to be working ok the program however it does not label my PCI sat tunner at DVB S. I have managed to put dish up.
One last question is how do you enter the nz transponders frequencies in the server program because at the moment i cant see OptusD1 in the tvserver setup list??

Ubuntu, XBMC+PVR and TvHeadend is a tidy easy setup.

as i tried both Kubuntu and Pardus with mythtv and what a nightmare so complicated the setup.

TV Server is detecting your tuner as "THDTV DVB-t BDA Tuner Filter" - a Twinhan (???) DVB-T tuner. If you're certain that the tuner is a satellite tuner then perhaps you've installed the wrong drivers?

One last question is how do you enter the nz transponders frequencies in the server program because at the moment i cant see OptusD1 in the tvserver setup list??

You can't scan satellites with a DVB-T tuner, therefore you won't see Optus D1 in the list. If the tuner were recognised correctly by TV Server then you'd be able to scan Optus D1.

What you need to do:
1. Install the correct drivers for the tuner so that it is recognised as a satellite tuner. I'm *guessing* you may have installed some kind of pseudo DVB-T driver. They used to be required to allow satellite tuners to be used in WMC, however you should use a standard BDA driver for MediaPortal.

2. Once you've got the tuner recognised correctly, open TV Server configuration, expand the TV Servers node (on the left), select your tuner, click "update satellite list", and then proceed to do a scan of Optus D1. You'll probably need to set parameters as follows:
- tick the first satellite row
- select "none" for DiSEqC
- select "NA Bandstacked DP Ku-L..." for band if your LNB is a 10750 MHz LNB
- select "160 deg E - Optus D1" for satellite
After that you should be able to scan. Note that if your LNB is a 11300 MHz LNB then you'll probably need to use the LNB override frequencies. Tick the checkbox to show advanced options, then tick the checkbox to enable the LNB override frequencies, then enter 11300, 11300, 12750.

Great news i got the windowsxp media portal working with freeview but the only problem i got is that channel two or tvnz is missing? i rescan but nothing is there a way to know what transponder broadcast tvnz and what is the frequency for just that channel to add it?
thank you guys so much your info help me get this going.
Is cold and raining so too slippery the roof to keep playing with dish but im getting over 80% signal strength but only 30+ % of signal quality? I assume it just need tuning with the satfinder tomorrow.

Do you mind if I ask how you resolved the problem with the tuner being recognised as DVB-T instead of DVB-S?

The TVNZ Freeview transponder can be scanned manually using these settings:
Frequency = 12483000 kHz
Polarity = horizontal
Symbol rate = 22500
Modulation = not set

There are also Sky feeds of TV One and TV 2 available from:
Frequency = 12671000 kHz
Polarity = horizontal
Symbol rate = 22500
Modulation = not set

I know i was jumping like crazy in my backyard so happy i did it!
I reinstalled driver that came with the card and same issue so run system restore to point before installing MediaPortal and installed driver first then Media Portal and all works.

I will just do some fine tuning tomorrow to raise the quality signal and on the weekend I get my flash tv...:)
