Hi guys at Geekzone and thank for reading this post.

I would like to know if anyone know what could be causing the Blue screen of death while im trying to play DVD's in Windows Media Centre in Win7. It all works fine with live tv and tv recordings but soon as I try to play DVD's then crashes a minute later I changed the DVD rom and run win7 update and problem still there?? but VLC media player works fine??.

Does it crash when you use Windows Media Player?

To be honest I have to check that because I do not use media player as I use Media Center instead.
it only does the blue screen of death during the time im using MS Media Center however if Im using the DVB-S no problems it all works fine until I try to run DVD's the it crashes.

Also when I use DVB-T even without playing DVD's it randomly crashes

I dont know if it is a driver issue?

You don't need to create more than one topic for the same problem. Also I've moved this to the correct forum.

Seeing you have this problem in both Media Center and Media Player the first thing to do is make you are running the latest driver for your video card, and video receiver.

Then you have to make sure all cards are properly seated and secure.

Also, are you using the Windows codecs or have you downloaded anything else?

DXVA corruption perhaps?

Do you have DXVA disabled in VLC? That could explain why you can still play DVD's with it and not with WMC.

Also check your CPU usage within Task Manager when you're running DVB-T, if it's running DXVA properly you should see minimal CPU loads as it will offload all the work onto your GPU/Graphics Card.

What kind of graphics card are you running btw?

the title of blue screen is DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL so I assume is a driver issue but when i used windows update no driver updates :(. I updated the chipset and my GPU ATI HD 3870 card but i still getting blue screen while using windows media center.

I added AV core professional codecs for HD fast decoding and nothing else but blue screen still happening. There are so many drivers in the pc hard to tell what is the problem. I will run a memtest on reboot and see if it is faulty ram.

My cpu is running well despite only a dual core and I got 4GB of Corsair high performance ram two 500GB HDs and Wintv HVR 3300 running Win7 64bit...I wonder if a problem with 64bit?

PS I had a blue screen crash again today and it took place in WMC while using DVB-T so maybe the card is not set in socket properly or driver is not good. But DVB-S same card runs flawless in WMC.??

Do not use Windows "generic" drivers. Go to the manufacturer's web site and get the latest for your card. With manufacturer I mean the card manufacturer, not the graphic CPU manufacturer. If the card manufacturer driver does not solve the issue, then go to the graphic CPU manufacturer's driver. Make sure Windows is not reverting to the generic MS drivers.

If you have an MSI video card then buy something else. Based on a few years of issues I refuse to buy MSI, mostly temperature related and slow to approve new drivers.

"Despite only a dual core"? I'm still running a P4 with 1GB and it plays DVDs just fine upscaled to 1080p. It does not need much other than a modern video card. In my case an HD5570 which cost $100 a year or two ago, i.e. not too flash either just modern.
