Hello,
I am looking forward to learning how to make the best use of geekzone. I have had my computer since last August. I was beginning to wonder if I could figure out how to get out of a sort of perpetual beginner mode. Apparently a stumbling block to progressing has been to first figure out the right question to ask and then to find a place to ask it.
I am interested in computers, photography, blogging, health and fitness, music, books and in general, learning how to do useful and worthwhile things.
Perhaps serendipity is my friend, because I do find things I did not know I was looking for. My challenge is in communicating that I am not technically proficient or experienced. It is especially perplexing to me that I have not discovered just what it is I am supposed to do in order to become more technically advanced without pursuing a particular course of study.
I have tried to be patient and take things step by step. I do know that I have gotten the best results so far in those instances when I have been able to find an example that allows me to follow the steps in a process one by one. An example would be setting up an email client such as Mozilla Thunderbird by following the steps in a tutorial that has good screen shots. My frustration sometimes crops up when I try to follow instructions that suddenly take it for granted that I know certain things that are foreign to me. It amuses me that this screen has "SMS" on it, because that is something I saw for the first time this week and I have not taken the time to find out what it means yet.
I am an employee of a large company. My background is primarily in accounting.
Now that I have offered this as my introduction, I am less reluctant to admit that I am not sure just how I am going to pursue my efforts to learn from geekzone.
