Daughter's laptop disconnected from WiFi a couple of times last week. I've noticed the device Killer WiFi adapter was disabled - not of her own doing as hers is not an Administrator account.

Today the device was disconnected again, so logged with my Administrator account. Tried

1. Disable/Enable

2. Restart

3. Update drivers using assistant

4. Removed device from list with driver uninstall, followed with installing downloaded drivers from Dell

In all cases I get an "Windows can't start device. Error 10".

At the moment the laptop is connected via a USB WiFi adapter, so next step (after school hours) will be to do a Windows refresh and see if it fixes - if not then I will have to assume it's a hardware problem and go back to the retailer and claim warranty repair/replace (it's a five-month old laptop)

Any other ideas?

No. "Killer WiFi 6 adapter" is the built-in wireless adapter. The USB WiFi is a different device I plugged in so she can continue using the laptop for today.

No hardware switch on this laptop. "Disabled" as in soft-disabled - as in lately "Device cannot start. Error 10"

Looks like there has been a range of issues recently related to killer wifi and windows update.

Yes, I thought it could be that - machine was updated to last month so in one of the restarts I've applied yesterday's update too.

Solved...

Tried manually installing the Dell drivers, the Killer Networking drivers, uninstalling Windows Updates and finally doing a full Windows reset.

Nothing worked.

I was about to call the retail store where we bought this laptop to arrange repairs but decided to disable the WiFi adapter in the UEFI settings, restart the laptop and enable the adapter again... And this is what fixed it so the adapter was able to start again.
